Meet Jessica Claire Militello of Jessica Claire Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Claire Militello.

Jessica Claire, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally from a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. I’ve been an avid photographer since I was a toddler. I really got into photography when I started shooting other local agency models portfolios. Eventually, I polished my skills with a formal education.

I’ve been permanently living on the West Coast since 2007.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think my biggest challenge as a photographer has been adapting to social media. I’m somewhat old fashioned and value face-to-face conversation and birthday cards. I’ve gone off social media a couple of times, but my website would only get 1 or 2 visits a day, and it was probably my own views that were being tallied… So, I began to re-establish a social media presence.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Jessica Claire Photography – what should we know?
I specialize in Portraiture. But I also dabble in Equestrian photography. I think what sets me apart from most photographers is my insatiable curiosity and desire to learn.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
When I first started modeling in Michigan, the first makeup artist I worked with was Courtney Dailey, who at the time was picking up makeup gigs to help pay for college.

She was attending a local university and working on a photography portfolio. Over the years I modeled for Courtney many times, assisted for her and picked her brain a lot.

She has always been a wonderful mentor, a great friend and story teller… pure creative genius. We both moved out to California around the same time and it has been amazing to watch her develop.
