Meet Jessica Chung of JEYOONJI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Chung.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, I moved to LA in 2013 to pursue a bachelors degree in 3D Animation and Visual Effects in New York Film Academy. After graduating, I worked at NYFA for almost one year as a TA. The following year, I started the Desing in Communication Certificate at the UCLA Extension and am currently on my 5th semester. I am now working as a Gallery Ambassador at the Hammer Museum as well as side creative projects.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not smooth at all. I think one of the biggest struggles was my animation thesis. As we had to go through all the creative process from pre-production to post-production. Each student had to do a three-minute animation short in six months. I learned a lot about what to prioritize and how to organize myself through project management. It was tough, but it was worth it as my thesis are still going around festivals.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about JEYOONJI – what should we know?
I mainly do graphic design and animation. In graphic design, I specialize more towards movie posters, album/EP covers, product design, and branding. In animation, I specialize more towards character animation, motion graphics, visual effects including green screen and rotoscoping, all of them using both 3D and 2D software.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Yes, definitely. My boyfriend, Nicholas Joseph Cunha, has supported me a lot through my projects. We also collaborate a lot on projects. We are currently working on animation for a feature he directed “Bang! Bang!”

My parents for supporting my classes and my living expenses here. My teachers from NYFA and UCLA Extension.
