Meet Jesse Jaggers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Jaggers.

Jesse, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It’s quite unique actually, I started make up just less than a year ago. I’ve always been intrigued by the arts and creative expression through drawing, painting, etc. but I never had thought makeup would fall in my lap.

Just before quarantine started, I attended a beauty event with a friend of mine who is already involved in the makeup community. They gave everyone a free beauty bag to take home so I thought why not. It sat in my room for almost a month until one bored day in quarantine, I decided to pull out this blue eyeshadow palette, and I instantly fell in love. I went out the next day and bought more makeup from my local beauty store and just started playing around every single night in my room. I’ve never been one to watch and learn patiently so I just took the challenge on myself, rarely watching tutorials or getting help, just experimenting with my own creative skills. Since then, I have just stuck to practicing every day and working on new techniques and skills. I will say I am very proud of the amount I’ve grown artistically and as well as on social media in such a short amount of time but I know I have much more to learn and many amazing things ahead of me and I cant wait to see where this dream life of mine takes me!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say it has been both smooth and rough, as everything is! I’ve found it super easy to mingle with others in my community of artists and make great relationships and connections! Everyone is super inviting and encouraging of each other’s art, always sharing each other’s work and helping one another out. I will say I have learned to kind of hold up a wall around myself until I feel comfortable as everyone knows there is a lot of superficial people with not the best intentions in this field, as every other field as well though so I would not be discouraged by that. Keep your intentions straight on what you want for YOU and surround yourself with people who do the same.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a makeup artist. I love to get pretty and have that glowing skin like everyone loves, but there’s something that sets me apart. Yes, I can give you sparkly eyes and a nude lip but I love to transform one’s face into something much more creative. I wouldn’t say my makeup is the “everyday” look people go for. I often like to use SFX, face paints, prosthetics, & much more to create more of a story or piece of art on the face. As you see in the attached images, I do anything from a Frankenstein transformation to an ice cream cone drawn on my face. I take pride in my creativity as I often can just look out the window while in the car or stare at anything and draw some sort of story or art from it. I think everything in this world has beauty and I love to bring that out.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel being consistent & confident is key to success. Portraying yourself in a way that comes off as bold & confident will not only bring confidence to your audience but will also help your own mind stay positive and believe that you can achieve what you want. Another quality I would say is super important is to just stay consistent. Post as much as possible, practice as much as possible, Get yourself out there. A missed post is a missed opportunity is the way I see it. The more you practice and stay consistent, the more you will grow.
