Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry Bakhchyan.
Jerry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been passionate about men’s fashion since I was a teenager and was fortunate enough to be introduced to the bespoke business in 1997. Since then, I’ve had the great honor of creating custom tailored garments for men of all shapes & sizes and from all walks of life. Being taught and mentored by one of the best custom clothiers in the industry has given me the support and direction to grow and thrive and better service the needs of my clients. Coupled with my passion for fashion, I’ve been living the dream by doing what I absolutely love every day. It’s an amazing experience not only because I get to do what I love but also because I am a part of some of the most special moments in these men’s lives.
Today I am proud to say that JB Clothiers is the only 5 star rated Men’s Fashion Business in California because of our hard work and dedication to our clients. We believe in building long lasting relationships which is why The Experience they get is unlike anything they will experience at any other men’s store. Has it been a smooth road?
Thankfully, I’ve had support when I’ve needed it but none of us can prepare for what happened in 2008 and what unexpectable situations may happen in the future.
Back when I started, there was no social media so everything I did was manual. I’d make hundreds of calls a day and visited 5 to 10 prospects a day and really hustled. Now looking back at it, I’m actually glad that I started off that way because I had to speak to each and every person face to face which allowed me to really understand their wants and needs. There’s something about meeting face to face that really helps both me and the client connect and share our vision for the look they have in mind. Till this day, all consultations and of course fittings are done in person. It’s important for me to be able to connect with the gentleman standing in front of me so that I know exactly what they want.
During those Non Digital times, what helped me keep going was knowing that I am providing a great service and because I am passionate about what I do, I’m able to help a lot of gentlemen gain the confidence they need to kill it at a meeting or look amazing on their wedding. My dedication and commitment to my clients is what has given me the strength and determination needed to never give up. Life is not easy and neither is business, but if deep down you believe in yourself and love what you do, you just keep going.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JB Clothiers story. Tell us more about the business.
JB Clothiers is the premiere men’s Bespoke (custom) clothing store in Los Angeles with the only 5 star yelp rating in the industry. In addition to that, we have received numerous awards and recognitions from the city of Los Angeles and the state of California. As a leader in the men’s fashion industry, we specialize in Bespoke (Custom) men’s garments from suits, tuxedo’s, dress shirts, Sportcoats and more. We are known for our Bespoke suits in the business sector and our bespoke tuxedos in the wedding industry. What we are most proud of is our yelp rating because it showcases the hundreds of men who have trusted us with their custom clothing and have taken the time to leave incredible reviews of their experience.
The experience our clients get from the moment they walk into the JB Clothiers store, which I designed from scratch and am super proud of, to the first fitting, to the moment they try on their bespoke garment for the first time is what really sets us apart, Being in the business since 1997, gives us an advantage over the new guys because we can provide the best of the best for those with a modest budget to those who want to go all out. It’s an amazing feeling to be able to “materialize” the look that our clients have imagined regardless of the budget or the occasion.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5 to 10 years I feel that the industry is going to keep growing because the need for custom tailored clothing is on the rise. People are becoming more independent and comfortable with their individuality and want more options to fit their needs, so going bespoke is becoming more and more popular every day. Men are spending more time, money and attention on how they look which is a huge shift from just 20 years ago.
People are smarter about where they spend their money and realize that they can get more for their money by going custom. They no longer want to buy something off the rack and only wear it once or twice, they like the fact that they have a tailor and can constantly make adjustments to their existing clothing. Because of that need, we offer lifetime alterations and adjustments on all of our garments for free. We understand that life happens, that we gain or lose weight or that styles change, so when any of those things happen, our clients know that we will be there for them.
As for DTLA, as the only High End men’s custom store, we are leading the way for more high end men’s fashion brands to make a presence here. Our goal is to bring the world famous Savile Row of London to DTLA which will be amazing for the community. With the revitalization of DTLA and all of the new buildings popping up every year, there will be more and more people to service so we feel that things are just getting started.
