Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Subadya.
Jeremy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My first exposure to Chiropractic started at a young age as my father is a Chiropractor. I was considering majoring in Digital Music in College but felt a calling to help people and what drew me to Chiropractic was that a lot of the patients that were at Chiropractic offices seemed to try everything else and didn’t get better and Chiropractic really helped them naturally.
I would get adjusted routinely by my dad as a kid and while it felt good getting adjusted, I had lingering health issues that never went away such as severe throat infections multiple times a year for which I had to be on strong antibiotics as well as lingering neck pain and shoulder pain due to multiple car accidents and overuse injuries. I saw many different health professionals and had treatment that ranged from various Chiropractic techniques, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, and Medical Doctors but none of these things got to the bottom of what was going on with my body.
When I got to Chiropractic school, one of the techniques that I was exposed to was Upper Cervical. Cervical means neck so Upper Cervical Chiropractors focus exclusively on the alignment of the top two bones in the neck. I was extremely skeptical at first. When you think of an injury, you would probably expect to get treatment where you feel pain. So if you had lower back pain, a person would probably expect you to work on the lower back. However, through research, what I found was that the Upper Neck controls the alignment of the rest of the body. So in a sense, when you focus on the Upper Neck you are looking to deal with the root cause of an issue instead of merely patching things up. All this was theoretical for me until I tried Upper Cervical Care for myself.
The first thing that stood out when getting under care myself was the level of detail, science, and objectivity that encompasses Upper Cervical. Two main tests stood out. Nerve Scanning utilizing thermography was used to determine if there was abnormal neurological function. This really made sense to me because when you go to the MD they don’t look at you and think you have high blood pressure, but they actually measure it with a tool. So my whole concept of chiropractic was how do we know that getting an adjustment is doing anything positive on the body without checking the effects before and after? The nerve scan as an objective tool took chiropractic work for me from being guesswork to scientific. The other part of Upper Cervical that appealed to me was the use of X-Ray to figure out exactly how to deliver a specific correction to the Upper Neck with the goal of restoring proper neurological function to the body. The best part of Upper Cervical is there is no severe twisting or “cracking” with the adjustment and it is much more gentle and specific than traditional chiropractic treatments.
After being under this care for three months while in school, the unresolved issues in my neck and shoulder along with my throat infections resolved and that’s when I knew that this was my calling in life. Upper Cervical work takes a lot of extra study and training that go far beyond what is offered in the Chiropractic Schools but it what makes it worthwhile is when you have clients coming in that have literally tried everything in the kitchen sink for their health tell you that they have hope for the first time.
I just moved back to Southern California after practicing in New York City and just started a practice in October located in Thousand Oaks and look forward to serving the community with Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say that practicing Upper Cervical Chiropractic has its ups and downs. One of the hard things is that in school you learn a lot about how to be a great clinician along with taking out massive student loans but learn very little about business. I would say that sales and marketing don’t come naturally to me so I’ve definitely had to learn a lot about that world. Also, I think that overall a lot fo the general public still doesn’t know what Chiropractic is or has negative preconceived notions about it which doesn’t make it the easiest thing to market.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Specific Chiropractic – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Specific Chiropractic focuses on restoring proper nerve system function to the body through Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care to allow you to work and function at your highest capacity. What sets us apart is that we aren’t looking to patch up or temporarily relief your conditions but get to the underlying cause. Some of the secondary conditions that I commonly see at the office besides the typical Back and Neck pain are Migraine Headaches, TMJ, Brain Fog, Vertigo, Dizziness, amongst many others. What also sets us apart is that the care you receive here will be very objective and thorough. Objective Diagnostic Testing will be used to make sure that the care you are getting is what your body needs. There is no twisting or cracking manipulations that are typically associated with general chiropractic care but specific and gentle corrections to the body only done when necessary.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love practicing in Thousand Oaks. The area is health conscious and has a serene calm sense to it. I guess what I like least is that things close really early here but maybe that’s because I’m used to how late things open in New York City.
