Meet Jeremy Stillman of Jeremy Stillman Hypnosis and Life Coaching in The South Bay and Redondo Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Stillman.

Jeremy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been fascinated by hypnotherapy and the power of the subconscious mind since I was about 12 years old. I recall seeing hypnosis done on television and becoming incredibly curious about the process. I did a lot of research into the field in the years that followed and even began hypnotizing friends while I attended college, though I wasn’t formally trained. The results were highly positive, so I kept hypnosis as a hobby for years while working in other areas.

My interest in becoming a hypnotherapist grew in 2013 after undergoing tremendous physical and emotional healing working with a London-based hypnotherapist. I was fortunate to find an outstanding training program at the Center for Integrative Hypnosis in New York City. While studying hypnosis, I linked up with some excellent life coaches in the area and decided to become certified as a life coach too. It was also around this time I started deepening my knowledge of mindfulness practices and energy healing, both of which play a big role in my approach to supporting others today.

Shortly after my training I opened my practice in New York City, where I stayed for about a year until I relocated to LA. I’ve been here ever since. I love how open Angelenos are to this sort of work. Today I’m lucky to have a client base here in LA and to also work remotely with individuals around the world. Each session is so different and illuminating, which it makes my job exciting.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There certainly are challenges that accompany opening a therapy practice and being your own boss. What comes to mind are the inevitable lulls in business as I was becoming established, which were discouraging. Creating and maintaining an online presence has also been tricky at times. I am still constantly learning how to best leverage my time and energy to create the highest outcomes for my clients.

Despite these challenges I’ve never doubted my path as a healer and coach. My passion for my work has always been there and so has my conviction that this is what I am meant to be doing. This mindset has always propelled me forward.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a certified hypnotherapist, life coach and energy healer. People come to me seeking help with a wide range of goals including overcoming anxiety and fears, negative thinking addictions, bad habits, and emotional issues as well as boosting self-confidence, focus, productivity and happiness.

Much of my work revolves around the subconscious mind, which accounts for more than 95 percent of all our beliefs and behaviors. If we want to create fundamental changes to our habits and life it’s extremely helpful to leverage the subconscious. There are a variety of ways we can use this deeper part of the mind access greater empowerment, freedom and peace, but it all starts with awareness of oneself. So much of my job is helping people tap into their true selves, especially their emotions and desires. Immense healing, liberation and progress can occur when we become present to our authentic selves. Though the media portray it otherwise, hypnotherapy is simply the act of engaging in progressive relaxation and visualization so we can better understand ourselves and create positive shifts.

My work is grounded in neuroscientific principles and proven hypnotherapy techniques, but I like to take a more holistic, intuitive and energetic approach to guiding my clients to reach their goals. While hypnotherapy and energy work can be very powerful on their own, I also like to equip my clients with strategies and tools that they can use in daily life to empower themselves and make progress, however they define it. I think it’s crucial to have techniques at our disposal for overcoming daily stress and anxiety that fuel our negative behaviors.

Whereas many hypnotherapists and coaches use the same formula or script when working with all their clients, I like to take a much more individualized approach. For me it’s important to proceed in a way that is sensitive to the needs and goals of a client on a particular day.

My work is unique in that I emphasize core emotional healing over conditioning. Many people in my field help a smoker quit by conditioning in a negative association with cigarettes, which can work well for smoking cessation. However, if the underlying stress and painful emotion that feeds the cigarette addiction isn’t released, the person will often transfer their stress to another unhealthy coping mechanism. I find that the most empowerment and freedom happen when I can help clients process their emotions at a fundamental level.

I’m proud of being able to contribute to my clients’ successes. There’s truly nothing more gratifying than supporting them to release what’s holding them back and to create a new blueprint for greater physical, mental, emotional and spiritual success. I absolutely love witnessing their powerful breakthroughs.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been rather inquisitive and philosophically-minded. As a child I loved to learn about health and the human body, animals, languages and communication, psychology, the arts, unexplained phenomena of all kinds, I enjoyed studying different places and cultures around the world. Not much has changed!

I’ve always been a bit more on the extroverted side. I was quirky and would often do a lot to get a laugh out of people. I enjoyed a good debate and engaging with people on issues that were important to them. I found a lot of comfort in solitude, too. I’d like to think I had a reasonably strong moral compass growing up!
