Meet Jeremy Oliver-Ronceros of NoHo Hair Salon in North Hollywood – Arts District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Oliver-Ronceros.

Jeremy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Sassoon-trained owner Robbie Wilson had launched a series of successful salons beginning with Southern California’s Teriobi in 1980, then Park Place Hair Design, Redondo Beach’s Talking Headz, 444 HAIR, on the 444 Hana Highway in Kahului, Hawaii, Kihei Hair in Kihei and Upcountry Hair in Makawao.

Robbie and his wife journeyed from the islands back Los Angeles in 2001 to open Robbie Wilson Hair Salon, then bShop, also known as Robbie Wilson Salon, four years later. His current salon, NoHo Hair Salon, is nestled deep in the very hip heart of North Hollywood’s thriving Arts District.

I joined the salon in 2012, after it celebrated its year anniversary. Originally, just the social media and marketing guy, I quickly became passionate about the shop and became its manager. I handle the business side of things since then, being the face of the shop and well and the operations manager.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I came on board, the salon had three stylists and was not very busy. In the next few years, we grew immensely, monthly new clients were 400% higher and expanded the staff. There have been stylists that have come and go and we certainly have had our drama, but we are a family and we have grown together.

Los Angeles is such a transient city; people move here for a time and then move away. Keeping a long term client can be a bit of a challenge but the stylist here have navigated that well, with their creativity and talent, and had their client list replenished by the new people we bring in.

I did leave the salon for a year to help grow a business venture of my own and also to care for my husband, whom was suffering from liver failure. He went on treatment in 2017, which was successful and I returned to the Salon in January 2018.

Please tell us about NoHo Hair Salon.
We are the NoHo Hair Salon. We do cuts and color on both men and women. We are known for our ability to work with creative colors and help realize what the client wants. We are lovers of beauty and art. Robbie is a musician and has been known to hold an impromptu jam session in the salon. We have beautiful art on our walls by all sorts of artists… one of which is my husband, Nicholas Oliver-Ronceros. This energy and vibe is really what sets us apart. We strive to create a professional yet eclectic ambiance.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up it was always about family. We were very close and loving. There was no separation between friends and experiences. We believed you should go through life together and share the moment. So, every Saturday all my friends, my sisters friends, my parents friends, would all gather at our house and we would eat, play games, go to the movies… just have fun. All ages, all backgrounds, all of us. Those are my favorite memories from childhood. The ones of feeling accepted and loved and that we can create a family of the finest people.
