Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Daniels.

Jeremy Daniels

Hi Jeremy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My journey began in Singapore, where I was raised in a supportive and nurturing environment. From a young age, I displayed a keen interest in music, which laid the foundation for my future endeavors.

As I progressed through school, I dabbled into various instruments, going from the violin to the French horn to finally landing on the guitar. This passion for learning propelled me to pursue higher education, where I enrolled into Berklee College of Music, with a focus on the Music Production and Engineering program.

During my studies, I had the opportunity to work alongside like-minded peers and nurture my creative skills. My favorite Berklee professor, Sean McLaughlin, was kind enough to offer me an internship at his studio – 37′ Productions. These experiences not only expanded my knowledge but also helped me develop invaluable skills in artist relations, technical studio skills, and critical listening.

Upon graduation, I embarked on my professional career, initially starting out as an assistant mixing engineer for Graham Cruser. Through hard work, determination, and a continuous pursuit of excellence, I steadily advanced in my field, taking on increasingly challenging roles and responsibilities.

Along the way, I encountered obstacles and setbacks, but I viewed each challenge as an opportunity for growth and learning. Whether it was dealing with work-life balance or facing imposter syndrome, I remained resilient and focused on achieving my goals.

As my career progressed, I found myself drawn to really understanding the craft of mixing and being the bridge that connects an artist to their listeners. I dedicate myself to mastering these areas, continually seeking out opportunities for professional development and advancement.

Today, I am proud to say that I have built a relatively successful career in mixing records. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had along the way and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Whether it’s working with getting to work with my favorite artists or helping an up-and-coming new artist find their sound, I am committed to continued growth, learning, and making a positive impact in my field and beyond.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every journey is unique, and mine has been no exception. While there have been moments of triumph and success, there have also been significant challenges and obstacles along the way.

One of the struggles I faced early on was getting rejected to join Berklee’s Music Production and Engineering program. It is a major with tons of applicants every semester, and based on various factors, I was refused admission into the major on 5 different applications. That definitely tested my resolve and determination, and I found myself grappling with doubt and uncertainty.

In addition, navigating the complexities of the music industry presented its own set of challenges. Whether it was meeting tight deadlines or even getting my work rejected as a whole, I had to adapt and evolve in order to stay ahead.

Despite these challenges, I remained resilient and persevered. Each obstacle I encountered served as an opportunity for growth and learning, ultimately strengthening my resolve and shaping me into the person I am today.

In hindsight, I recognize that the struggles I faced were essential components of my journey, helping me develop resilience, grit, and a deeper appreciation for the successes that followed. While the road may not have always been smooth, the challenges I encountered ultimately propelled me forward, guiding me toward greater personal and professional fulfillment.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am primarily a mixing engineer that approaches my work with a deep understanding of the artistic and emotional impact of sound. I view mixing not merely as a technical process but as a creative endeavor that involves shaping the listener’s experience and translating the artist’s vision into sonic reality. I am really proud of working on projects for The Kid LAROI, KiNG MALA, Tiffany Stringer, Echosmith and more.

What sets me apart is my respect for the artistry, my attention to detail, and, ultimately, my service to music. Overall, I play a crucial role in the music production process, shaping the sonic character and ensuring that the final mix translates well across different playback systems and environments. I combine technical expertise with artistic sensibility to create a polished and professional-sounding recording.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I definitely have a long list of people who deserve credits, here are some major influences in my life the past few years.

Sean McLaughlin for showing me compassion and the ropes of being a professional in the music industry.

Graham Cruser Marsh for bringing me on board and joining his team when I first moved out to Los Angeles, and getting me to work on really cool projects.

Cody Lovaas for being my supporting manager and dealing with my never-ending day-to-day questions.

My friends and mom have also been a huge support when it comes to my life and being my support system. I definitely could not have done this without any of them!
