Meet Jeremy Crooks of Made By Crooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Crooks.

Jeremy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started working on music professionally back in 2009. Went through some early success being on a few television shows and performing in theaters and music venues all around California.

But just like any journey, there’s been peaks and valleys. I at one point had an entire team of people working with me on an album, from marketing to live shows, but I went through some tough business and personal losses back in 2014, and eventually was left to do most of my work alone.

I invested in music equipment and taught myself how to record and mix records, and just a year ago started my company Made By Crooks. Made By Crooks is meant to be an all-encompassing creative brand to carry any of my creative endeavors, from music to visuals to clothing.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but the obstacles always help make you stronger. I’ve gone through a lot in the years pursuing music and building my personal brand.

From sleeping on couches and floors to dealing with the losses of business teams and colleagues, to forcing myself to learn how to record and mix music myself. There’s a lot of stress and pressures that are dealt with on the daily when you decide to own your business and work for yourself.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Made By Crooks, LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
My company is a creative brand. I’m an artist, and I create music, visuals, and clothing. I’m most known for my most recent album, ALLISON, and spent a lot of time on the songwriting, recording, mixing and production of the album.

I’m most proud of this most recent album because it’s really the first time I’ve had complete control over the music and the creative decisions made on it. What separates me from others is the songwriting, vocals, and vision that I bring to the music.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The industry that I’m in is moving more and more towards a streaming heavy model.

Even though there will be a portion of listeners that will still focus on albums as a whole, most listeners will have their ears on singles and playlists. Streaming services and artists will eventually need to figure out the rate in which an artist should be paid per stream.

In the meantime, most artists will need to continue focusing on building personal brands and using live performances to showcase their music to a devoted fan base.
