Meet Jennifer Wynh of Embe in Anaheim and El Segundo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Wynh.

Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated with a degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine and went on to have a successful career in aerospace engineering. But as a mother of four, and constantly finding a lack of versatile swaddles that tailored to a baby’s sleep needs, I incorporated my design sense and engineering background, and birthed the concept for the embé 2-Way Swaddle™.

I then had to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life, to leave a stable and successful career behind in exchange for the uncertainty of pursuing my dream.

I applied for my first utility patent, and with that the embé brand was realized. Two years later, the embé 2-Way Swaddle – the 1st ever patented legs-in and legs-out swaddle – made its debut and embé has been helping to provide families with smarter, safer, more restful sleep ever since.

We sold 8,800 swaddles last year during our pre-launch period and expect to triple that number based on YTD sales.

I am deeply and intimately connected to the experience and profound relationship between a mother and her newborn during the earliest stages of life, which informs the culture of the company, reflects what I believe is an extraordinary level of social consciousness, and defines embé’s place in the world.

Has it been a smooth road?
I am fully aware of the struggles of the small entrepreneur and the financial strain it places on the household. I gave up a safe and secure career in the aerospace industry to start Embe. You give so much of yourself, you max out your credit cards, you borrow from friends and family, you keep plugging along, through the valleys and over the hills, and so it is extremely gratifying to not only see the sales start to take off, but to know we’re helping mothers (and fathers) during one of the most meaningful, fulfilling, challenging times of their life.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Embe is the nation’s only patented design legs in, legs out swaddle which allows the newborn to be cooled down (SIDs safer), or warmed up, or even have a diaper changed, without un-swaddling and startling the baby’s precious sense of security, peace and comfort. Because there is no loose cloth to cover nose or mouth, and no un-raveling, the embe swaddle is safer on many levels.

Pricing:

  • The embe swaddles retail for about $30.00
