Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Weisman.
Jennifer Weisman has been part of the beauty industry for over 13 years now. She started her career in the industry working for MAC Cosmetics back in 2004 and hit the ground running. Her artistic and creative nature drove her love of makeup. She decided to expand her knowledge by attending the prestigious Makeup Designory in Los Angeles, California where she learned special effects and character makeup.
After many years of working as a MAC Pro artist on weddings, photoshoots, and music videos; her passion for learning drove her to expand her knowledge once again and she decided it was time to go deeper than the makeup on her client’s face. She enrolled herself at Lu Ross Academy (Aesthetician Program) in Ventura, California where she learned everything there is to know about skincare. She enjoys giving progressive results for clients through consistent facials, chemical peels, and a custom product regimen.
Being a makeup artist and licensed aesthetician helped guide her natural understanding and ability for beauty to offer her clientele microblading and eyelash Extensions services. So whether you need your makeup done for a special event, longer/fuller lashes, or flawless looking skin, Jennifer has you covered.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think anything is ever a “smooth road.” The ups and downs help form a person and their business. All those situations become experiences to learn and grow from.
Some of the harder moments is when you realize that some people around you might not be the best influence for your business or have your best interest or support your vision. One of the hardest lessons to learn is your worth, the worth of your talent and how to put boundaries down between yourself and clients. The main issue that has come up in my career is pricing. There will always be people who question pricing and they want a discount or they want you to give them a price that fits their budget. I always ask people if they barter with their doctor, lawyer, accountant, hotels, clothing stores, etc and they always say no and that’s when I ask them why they think it’s ok to undermine my prices and what I do since I’m the one with the skill and talent they need. My skills have been cultivated by years of practice, challenges, education, money invested into product; no different than a doctor or lawyer or accountant.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business offers several services; makeup services, microblading, lash extensions, and chemical peels. I will always be a makeup artist first since it was my passion for makeup that led me down this path. Most people know me as a makeup artist also since I’ve been doing it the longest but my passion has spread to microblading and skincare. I love getting to see a woman or a man transformed with new brows they’ve wanted for so long or a cancer survivor recognizing themselves in the mirror again because they have brows. It’s a great feeling being able to help someone with problematic skin and get them results from the treatments and products I’ve chosen for them. Bridal makeup and microblading are definitely great bread and butter services but they are life-changers because being someone that is chosen to have an impact on someone’s wedding day or create something from nothing for a microblade client change my life and theirs because the interaction, memories, conversations leave what I call a “love mark” and that is when you leave a mark on someone’s heart with your interaction. I’m proud that I stand by what I say and do, that my word is as solid as my skills and services and that quality is what keeps my business growing.
What sets me apart is my dedication to working with my community. Lots of my clients and referrals are from my community and the surrounding areas so I like to repay that loyalty with volunteering, donating services to grand openings and auctions, teaching young people how to do male grooming, makeup skills, skincare, attending gathers and mixers to promote myself as opposed to just flooding the market with generic marketing.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is genuinely a city built from dreams and hard work. It holds so many different locations, people, ethnicities, tastes, preferences, interests, lifestyles, etc. Some people look at places like Los Angeles as over saturated but that would be like saying gas stations and Starbucks are overwatered; there might be one on every corner but yet people will always choose their favorite or most convenient or most familiar and when something bad happens they ask people they know for suggestions. That’s how my industry works, people talk and pass on their experience.
