Meet Jennifer Ravalo of Su She Art

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Ravalo.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jennifer. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I first decided I wanted to be a sushi Chef I was told that there weren’t many female sushi chefs and that I would only be making sushi rolls at a supermarket. That didn’t stop or discourage me from going after my dreams. I found my 1st Sushi chef position at a restaurant in Laguna Beach. After leaving that restaurant it was nearly impossible finding a restaurant that would hire me because I was a female. That’s how I started “Su She Art”. The “She” because I’m a female and because I mostly hire an all-female staff. We offer different types of catering sushi bar set up and our most popular naked sushi. Oh, my team & I won a chef battle last year at Disneyland’s OC chef table. So, our Sushi is good 😉

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started doing the body/naked Sushi a lot of people didn’t take me seriously. I got a lotta laughs, Hate Email and hate comments on social media. When I started all my events were at lounges and clubs, it was difficult dealing with unscrupulous promoters, general mgrs. and disingenuous club owners. I definitely learned a lot from promoting events to knowing what kind of lighting for Videographers to what kind and how much Sushi to make per person during cocktail hour.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Su She Art – what should we know?
“Su She Art” began at the SoCo farmers market in Costa Mesa. I was selling sushi rolls and sauces. Until one of my girlfriends told me “You need to think outside the box, why don’t you do that naked Sushi “. I thought, “why not?” and just did it. And that’s how “Su She Art” really got started. We specialize in Body/ Naked Sushi event catering. We have catered high end events for grand openings, product promotions, high end shoes, red carpet celebrity events, magazine release parties & food and wine festivals.
The difference with my Su She art and other companies that do naked Sushi is that we try to create a unique, memorable and sophisticated dining experience. We are customer driven I custom create a new menu for every event and I only buy the best ingredients. We also have vegan options 🙂

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Persistence, perseverance and loving what I do. And supporting family.
