Meet Jennifer Otto of Wax Candy in Dtla, Pasadena and Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Otto.

Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After leaving a 6-year graphic design career I went to beauty school where I met one of my business partners. We worked for some not so great bosses, so we decided to take a chance on a salon of our own. 5 1/2 years later we are 3 locations strong!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
With the support of my 3 business partners we have been able to navigate our way through the business world. We’ve all become more organized, responsible, and better at managing employees along the way. Honestly, constantly changing labor laws have been the most challenging to our business.

Wax Candy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Wax Candy is the creation of four friends/estheticians, who saw a need for clean, affordable and enjoyable waxing in Downtown Long Beach. Clients will notice what sets us apart right away. At the start of each service fresh azulene wax is poured into a new cup which is tossed out when your wax is over, so there is never double dipping. Our staff is warm, funny (and have been known to cheer on nervous clients as they brave their first Brazilian) and everything at Wax Candy is aimed at making your waxing experience as clean, comfortable and fun as possible!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Being able to afford fancy cheese and a house cleaner. Haha. But really, I would say for me being able to employ other women and to have happy customers is my marker for success.

Pricing:

  • Brazilian wax $43
  • Eyebrows $19
  • Full leg $55
