Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Burn Scar Pro was born from a simple but powerful question we heard again and again: “Will this wound leave a scar?”
As a trauma and burn surgeon, my husband Dr. Frank Nastanski, often heard this from patients and their families during some of their most vulnerable moments, right before discharge, when the focus shifted from survival to recovery. Alongside him, I, a family nurse practitioner with a background in trauma care and nursing education, noticed the same concern: how to protect healed skin, minimize scarring, and regain confidence after injury.
For years, our advice remained consistent: keep the area protected, moisturized, and out of the sun. But despite all the advancements in wound care, we were surprised that there wasn’t a single product that effectively did all three, especially when sun exposure is a major factor in poor scar outcomes.
That realization sparked a mission. Working closely with a materials expert, we developed the first-to-market silicone sheet infused with zinc oxide—a patented innovation that not only hydrates and protects healing scars, but also shields them from harmful UV rays.

It’s just my husband and me running Burn Scar Pro, and while we both come from strong medical backgrounds, this is our first time building a business around a physical product. My husband has an entrepreneurial spirit, but stepping into the world of product development and business operations has been a brand-new experience for both of us.
Because our reputations in the medical and broader communities are so important to us, we’ve been intentional about taking our time with every step of this journey. We want to ensure that everything we do reflects integrity, care, and the same commitment to quality that we’ve always upheld in our clinical work.
One of the most valuable lessons we’ve learned so far is the importance of giving ourselves grace during the learning process. At the core, our mission hasn’t changed. We went into healthcare to help people, and that passion has simply evolved into a more tangible form through this product. As long as we stay true to our values and remain focused on serving others, we believe we’ll continue to grow, persevere, and ultimately make a meaningful difference.
