Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Gunn.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had always wanted to open a venue for creative kids to have alternative space to sing, dance, entertain and BE entertained! We started off as an open play space, but our events quickly became the most requested and took over and off from there. We host events for all ages. We cater each event to the age and gender of the kids (or adults). There was nothing else out there like this and thought it could add something extra and much needed to the market. Most party spaces cater to younger children. Although, we do a lot of younger parties we really wanted to have a spot where older teens could enjoy! We are booked most weekends and have since partnered up with a cafe (Rosebud coffee). They run the space Mon-Fri then we take over on the weekends to host all our events. It’s become a win/win!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. It was very difficult the 1st few years. We were hosting most events on weekends and our weekdays were tough, not much biz. We were just making it by. We saved our business by finding a cafe that wanted to co-lease the space with us. It has worked out great. They run the coffee shop Mon-Fri and we take the weekends to host all our events. It has been wonderful since!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Chirp karaoke party/event space story. Tell us more about the business.
We are really the only karaoke party space that we know of. What set’s us apart from everyone else is we can host events for ALL ages. We have a little something for everyone. The karaoke, football, crafts area, a little nook for young ones with a play kitchen, dollhouses and such. Also, we are al large space so parents love it too. They can enjoy the party too!
