Meet Jennifer Escalera of Kosha Wellness Center in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Escalera.

Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m Mexican American and I grew up in a small border town in the city of El Centro, CA. I was raised Catholic and came from a family that was deeply involved in community. I knew as a child I was sensitive to people’s energy but I did not know until I was an adult that I am an empath. I felt drawn to helping people since I was young, especially the most vulnerable and misunderstood. I had a craving for politics, spirituality, psychology, and mysticism. While these roots and foundations were embedded early on that would define who I am and what my business is like today, I struggled growing up and into my early 30’s with low self-esteem, unhealthy relationships, and perfectionism. Because I have a curious mind and a passion for learning, as well as having a deep connection with Spirit (God), I sought out how to heal my own traumas using natural and ancient tools and traditions. My background is in clinical social work, and I’ve worked in the non-profit sector and department of mental health, but I knew I was called to do more than just psychotherapy. I wanted to learn how the body works, the function of the mind, and how to apply energy healing so that I could heal myself, and also be able to help others to heal themselves. I am certified in massage therapy, hypnosis, crystal therapy, and sound healing. With these various tools and ancient practices, they have shaped my holistic understanding of how to help people to heal their mind, body, and spirit.

As I gained more confidence and trust in myself, I knew I was ready to go on my own and be a creative entrepreneur helping other women (and men) who struggled like I did. I trusted my intuition and in 2008, I started my private practice. However, not until 2015 did I really allow myself to journey into the deeper ancient traditions and tools that my ancestors and teachings have provided me over the decades to make these healing modalities available to my clients. My mission has been to promote wellness, empowerment, and positive living. As a Feminist Latina Entrepreneur, my passion is helping women of color while I invite all Soul’s who want to work with me! I’m on a mission to reach as many women to empower, enlighten, inspire to be original, educate, and mentor to help them be their BEST self forever!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I struggled with self-confidence, clarity, and fears of not being taken seriously. I plaid it safe in the beginning of starting my business in 2008. I only advertised myself as a holistic psychotherapist and kept that I was an empathic healer hidden because: 1) I didn’t know how to separate the two types of services, 2) I doubted my intuition, and 3) I didn’t think I could be prosperous providing crystal therapy, sound healing or intuitive coaching. It took many years, like 7 I think for me to break out of these limiting beliefs. And to be honest, it wasn’t until I became a mom for the first time in 2015 that I let go of the fears and lack of confidence about my healing work. I was a mom now! So I just had this instinct to be the leader and mentor that I had always dreamt to be. If I was going to be a role model for my son and teach him the traditions and tools that I know, why couldn’t I help others learn too? It was that simple. I became really excited (and still get excited) about creating coaching and healing sessions, as well as online courses, and monthly sound baths to provide deep self-healing.

Kosha Wellness Center – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I run a soul-centered business teaching women how to use meditation, sound healing, crystals, intuition, psychospiritual healing, and chakra balancing to heal a childhood trauma, self-love, and to find healthy-loving relationships. My services include intuitive coaching, energy healing, sound baths, holistic psychotherapy, and online courses. I am known for helping clients achieve deep relaxation, life fulfillment, and transform unhealthy habits, using a gentle, guided approach for letting go and moving forward from a traumatic or stressful experience.

I am most proud of my business because I get the opportunity to work with female community leaders, empaths, and service professionals get clarity and freedom around an area of their life that is blocking them from living their fullest potential. I envision a rippling effect of healing and shaping our community and families with positive living.

I believe what sets me apart from others is that I educate and provide clients with tools to empower themselves, and bring in culture, spirituality, and divine wisdom within our sacred space for deep transformational healing. I offer workshops to the community, entrepreneurs, and businesses on topics including: self-care in the workplace, grow a successful holistic business, self-empowerment, and intuitive development.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as a collection of confidence, freedom, creativity, magic, prosperity, and wisdom. I’m looking for excitement and drive to guide me to stay innovative and original for new and current clients to get motivated and fearless about self-healing, and clarity around their life purpose. I’m passionate about teaching and healing women, particularly WOC (women of color) because as an ethnic minority, I want to bring in my culture and indigenous healing methods into our modern world. My goal is to be a leader in the industry of metaphysical healing and to inspire other young Latina women reach their fullest potential. If I can assist someone reach their dreams, and my business flourishes with reaching thousands and I still have my sanity, and health…then I think I’m pretty darn lucky to be successful.
