Meet Jennifer Brenneman of Intrinsic Designs in Ventura

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Brenneman.

Jennifer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve had a passion for creativity since I was a young kid. In a lot of ways, it is what has always driven me. Creativity for me is in everything that I do. I traveled a ton when I was younger and lived and worked all over the world from Thailand to Kenya and eventually ended up in South America for four years. I was living full time off my art there, painting murals, doing gallery shows and learning Aerial Dance while running a small production company where we would create cirque-style shows at large weddings and events.

I was essentially living and breathing creativity. I felt very free and filled during that time of my life. When I finally came home about five years ago, I had no idea what I was going to do. But I knew that my intention was to always do creative work.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When I started doing web design and branding it felt very natural to me. Web design is brimming with possibilities and creating on the web has its own set of complexities that I find really exciting and fun. I started off building brands and sites for a few friends, which quickly and organically grew from referrals into the company that it is today. Of course, there have been many struggles along the way. Starting your own company always comes with a roller coaster of emotions. I have failed many times and have had extreme lows in the journey, but for the most part, I am grateful for the challenges because they push me to grow and to keep learning.

Intrinsic Designs – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Intrinsic Designs was started from an intention to do creative work and live intentionally. The company name stems from the word intrinsic, which means belonging to the essential nature of a thing. I specialize in helping companies grow by telling their unique stories, creating genuinely authentic brands, and building beautiful websites.

I do this by first figuring out who they are, why they exist, and what drives them. From there, we can create something they truly feel proud of and love to share. Next, we work on creating assets through photos or videos, design, and storytelling. Every client is unique, and every process is tailored to their distinctive company and needs. I often continue to support my clients well after their site is built. Most of my first clients are still my clients and I love the relationships and friendships I have created through the journey!

I got into this industry to help companies who are shifting the world in the right direction. I mostly work with clients who focus on wellness or community, including yoga brands, wellness companies, studios, horse sanctuaries, and nonprofits. But I have also worked with lawyers, grocery chains, and restaurants. What is most important to me is that my clients are passionate about what they are doing! I am really proud that I can help my clients share their passions and magic with the world and watch them grow.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
In both work and life, success for me is to live a life with intention. Real intention comes from the heart. Often when I am feeling overwhelmed or can’t think of a solution, whether it be for a client, my life, or anything, I go back to the intention. What is my/our purpose? What do I/we want to do, and why are we pursuing a particular path? Then it becomes evident if I am still on the road to success or not.

A life of intention always brings you back to the heart, to the purpose, to the soul’s journey. Suppose we consistently go back to our plan. In that case, our intention, even if it means to change and shift, then you are always living intrinsically and creating a life with meaning—a life well-lived.
