Meet Jennifer Aguilar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Aguilar.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been a healthy eater but mid pandemic, I decided to go plant-based for the good of my health and well-being. I am a super curious person and sometimes I would say it can get me in trouble. I started researching what ingredients and products were used in making cosmetics because I want to be aware of what I apply to my body externally as well. When I became aware that animals are used in the making of lipsticks, it didn’t feel right so I did research in how I can make my own organic vegan lipstick. I started formulating light red lipstick then eventually when I was confidence I started formulating other pigments. It wasn’t easy at first but when I started wearing my own formulation and females would ask where I purchased it, I knew it could get me beyond the limits. Mutaats will be launching in 2022.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, definitely not, getting the pigment and color was a mission. It took me four months of constant formulating ingredients. Taking notes of every little movement that I was doing but I never gave up. I am a college student and have work, so there was days where I was tired but I would meditate so I could have a clear mind and be patience, that’s something that I lack. Another big obstacle has been if I want to use lacquer pots and a lip brush or stay with the originality of lipstick tubes.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently a senior at a university, I am majoring in Sociology. I would love to own my vegan makeup line one day so I am starting with lipsticks. I would also love to be an urban planner, I am universal and want to do it all and I believe I can and I will. I am also a product of an immigrant single mother. It hasn’t been easy and that’s what keeps me going. I come from hard-working roots and proud to say that I am a DACA recipient/ student. If you know, you know! The setbacks, challenges and craziness I have gone through as a DACA student to get an education does not compare anything I have been through and I am proud of it. I also write poems and paint.

What makes you happy?
As extroverted I may seem, staying home makes me the happiest. I get to meditate, write poems, paint, color, cook plant-based meals and watch movies or videos. I’m such a nerd and love learning about the world so I am always listening to educational podcast. The more you know, the better.
