Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Williams.
Hi Jen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The Idea of IntoMeSea became a vision back in 2016. I used to be a massage therapist, and I always knew I wanted to start my own business. I used to come home absolutely depleted from work, and I came across a podcast about Floatation Therapy. I knew I had to try it! My first float session was in 2014 and I became hooked. I attended my first Float Conference in Portland Oregon in 2015, in which I took a 3-day workshop with Float Tank Solutions, geared specifically for people wanting to start their own float centers. I also met Allison Pelissier, the US rep for the Lucia No º03 Hypnogic Light. I immediately knew this amazing tool was going to be a part of IntoMeSea. The various other modalities came along the way as the business model grew organically. Construction commenced in 2018 and took 3.5 years to complete. During this time, I teamed up with my Co+Creator and General Manager, Martha Lockie as we developed all of the nuances of what IntoMeSea is today. We stand in the firm Ethos that “I AM = We ARE”, IntoMeSea is dedicated to creating a Space where we care for, connect to and transcend self in order that we may connect to Everything, Everyone, Everywhere.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would have to say the greatest challenge was Construction, hands down… From everything from the City Planning and permits to Engineering setbacks and Construction delays. And that was only the first year and a half! Then the Pandemic hit!! And while the work itself stalled a bit, we ran up against the Supply Chain issue and getting materials and deliveries. Opening during unprecedented times was no easy feat as well… We had to make some tough decisions and make necessary changes to create a safe environment for both our Clients and our Employees. While it was a slow start, things are starting to improve as people feel safer and now have a better understanding on the Importance of Self Care.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a background in Professional Photography and working on everything from Photo Assistant, Still Photographer for Film, Lighting and Grip to Art Dept and assistant Set Decorating, to being an executive Producer on a Film. I was living in NYC and working for an A-List Photographer when I became ill and diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It made me become aware of how short life is and to never take things for granted and to live life to the fullest. I decided to take some time to travel in which I photographed everything I witnessed. My travels took me to Thailand, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, India and Nepal. Upon my return I decided I wanted to switch gears into the Healing Art and I enrolled in Massage Therapy School in NYC and received my Associate’s Degree in the Health and Science with a specialty in Massage Therapy. This journey in Healing continued, not only physically but also emotionally and spiritually. I was newly divorced and a single mother to my son who was barely two years old. I decided to move back home to Santa Monica. Shortly after this is when the concept of IntoMeSea was born. This has been an incredible journey and I am most proud of the growth and layers of the onion that have peeled back as I continue to discover new aspects of myself, my son and the world around me and asking, “What can I do to make this a better place and become a better version of myself?” This is a daily process and it doesn’t end here…
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you plan on doing your own build-out, HIRE A PROJECT MANAGER! I couldn’t stress this enough! The money that was overly spent on construction and delays would have paid for TEN Project Managers! Also, have a ton of patience and always read the fine print!
