Meet Jeff Zisner of AEGIS Security & Investigations in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Zisner.

Jeff, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a senior in high school, my student council was faced with having to redesign our yearly festival due to an abundance of security issues. I started researching and fixing the problems one by one and we ultimately had a fantastic festival. I then applied those skills to my first job out of high school as a security guard. My boss, realizing I had experiencing solving security challenges and managing people quickly promoted me in to a management roll, where I was responsible for operations, logistics, and sales.

I then had an opportunity to slide my way in to an active surveillance investigation. My first day on the job, the seasons PIs sent me in to a bar undercover to surreptitiously record the subjects. I was 20, but was able to not only talk my way in, but successfully uncovered case changing evidence.

Fast forward several years and I was finishing my degree in business management at Cal State Northridge. I had started a consulting company pairing clients with service providers and began my post college job search. After 50+ interviews for manager or director level jobs (my resume definitely made my look older than I was), I found myself without a job that met my skill set.

Thinking the grass was always greener, I decided to start a security company providing a higher quality service that clients would identify and appreciate. Two years later, I obtained my Private Investigator license and formed AEGIS Security & Investigations, Inc. a full service security, investigative, training, and consulting agency.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have had bosses that have tried to not pay me what I was owed. I have had people I was interviewing for a job with say I was too young to accomplish my goals. I have had people question my judgement because I wasn’t a retired police officer or federal agent. I have had people not like my honest, to the point, style of doing business. I have had clients stiff me on invoices after receiving services.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with AEGIS Security & Investigations, Inc. – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
AEGIS is a full service security, investigative, training, and consulting company. We really specialize and differentiate ourselves by providing a core service tuned to forward facing customer service. We source talent that is of the quality of everyone else’s supervisors and hire 1 out of every 50 resumes we receive on average.

I am most proud of my team’s willingness and ability to go above and beyond to ensure the safety and security our clients. Whether it’s a single security officer in the field going the extra mile, one of my operations supervisors picking up some slack, or my VP’s willingness to get up in the middle of the night to ensure clients get personal service – it all is a reason to be proud.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We have partnered with national companies to cross sell some amazing complimentary services. We now offer 24/7 alarm and security camera monitoring from a staffed operations center and fully autonomous security patrol robots. We are looking to integrate those services together with our existing operation to continue to scale and provide an unparalleled service.
