Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jeff Nazar.
Dr. Jeff, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated medical school in 2009 and started training future physicians for their licensing exams through an online platform that I created before I graduated. My company grew to provide training for various exams that physicians must pass before they are licensed and has since trained over 70,000 physicians. Over the ten year-period, I really missed treating patients which was the original plan when I enrolled in medical school. So I started giving my team more responsibilities so that they can be well prepared to manage the daily operations.
In 2019, I was seeing my urologist and was really unhappy with the experience. They seemed rushed, the clinic felt tired, and the process seemed broken. I had to wait weeks for some of lab work to be reported back, I had to go to the pharmacy multiple times because of inventory and coverage, and I was seeing a physician whose focus wasn’t my demographic.
I set out to make this experience much smoother for patients. First, I applied for a CLIA license (the regulatory agency for labs) so that I could give my patients their results during their first visit. This took close to a year to obtain. I brought medications in-house so that my patients would be able to get treatment the same day and not deal with the bureaucracies, wait times, and embarrassment of dealing with an outside pharmacy. Meanwhile, I was building a modern, state-of-the-art clinic so that my patients would have the best feeling possible when visiting their doctor’s office.
I also realized that there were so many clinics and medical spas focusing on women and that men needed something similar that was specialized in men’s health. We now have a beautiful office that tailors to men but we also have some female patients. We offer Botox, hair loss treatments, intramuscular and IV vitamin therapy, and double-chin reduction.
There are also many men who experience symptoms of low testosterone but remain undiagnosed because many physicians don’t check testosterone levels because it requires continuous follow-up visits and lab checks – or they blame their symptoms on something else like depression and recommend an anti-depressant when their symptoms could be easily resolved with bio-identical testosterone. The testosterone therapy has been very popular at our clinic and I find it so rewarding when patients tell me that they finally feel like themselves after they start.
I have also resolved the red tape that insurance companies present to patients by offering an all-inclusive package that includes all doctor visits, laboratory checks, and medications so that our patients have the best experience possible and feel their best without having to jump through hoops.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I dealt with a lot of struggles along the way. Getting a licensed laboratory for the clinic was the first of many. We had to deal with very unclear instructions by the governing body and it was similar to opening a separate business. In retrospect, I’m really glad that they are so meticulous about quality and details because we need to get the most accurate lab values possible in order to diagnose and treat our patients correctly. Their process makes sure that any CLIA-certified lab performs at the highest standards possible.
Construction of our office was another struggle we had to deal with. The contractor took almost one year to complete the office when the original estimated time was three months. It was frustrating because the building owner was in charge of construction and I couldn’t make it move quicker because he would say he’s at the contractor’s mercy. Nevertheless, it was worth the wait because nearly everybody who walks into our clinic comments on how great it looks!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We’re the only clinic that I know of who has a comprehensive list of services that treat the overall wellness of men. We’re known for being very approachable and welcoming, along with using the highest grade pharmaceuticals available. We use brand name testosterone, highly effective intramuscular vitamin dosages and IV hydration cocktails, and a natural approach when it comes to cosmetic services. We want men to look and feel like their younger selves and not like someone they’ve never met before.
I’m really proud of what we’ve been able to do for our patients and for the team that I have at the clinic. Patients regularly comment on how great their experience with my staff is.
What were you like growing up?
Since I was a kid, I was always very compassionate, caring, and family-oriented. I would often take my father’s stethoscope and pretend to listen to my dolls’ hearts. I knew from a young age that I’d follow my father’s footsteps and become a physician. I would say that I’ve fulfilled my childhood dreams of having a family and having a career in medicine.
My parents instilled the value of hard work at an early age. At the age of 16, I was working at Radio Shack and going to college. I would then volunteer at a local hospital during my free time. For leisure, I loved jet skiing, skiing, and traveling but I didn’t have much time for these activities!
