Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannie Kulwin.
Jeannie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been on a health journey for over 15 years. I’ve seen so many doctors and alternative practitioners; my head spins just thinking about it. I pretty much tried it all. I had long unpredictable periods of mystery illness, chronic pain, chronic inflammation, anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue and auto-immune symptoms. Doctors and medical providers couldn’t give me any clear answers. When countless tests and results came back “normal,” I felt so bad, like I was doing something wrong and was so frustrated that I didn’t know what to do. Each time I had a flare-up, my social life was put on hold and I felt like I was “white-knuckling” it at work.
I was a public high school teacher and it was such a challenge to suppress my emotions and pretend everything was fine in the classroom. Finally, I was told I had fibromyalgia by three different doctors. When I complained of insomnia, one top doctor in the field commented, “You have fibromyalgia, that’s what happens.” Another doctor told me that because I have a thin build, I have small muscles and therefore couldn’t be strong. I felt so disempowered and out of control. I wasn’t living a life; I was managing symptoms and living in constant fear. On top of all this, I’m a supersensitive empath which means I’m highly affected by other peoples’ feelings and energies. This was something I didn’t understand, nor did I know the tools to help myself. This perpetual cycle of despair ensued.
Has it been a smooth road?
I spent so much time, money and energy on medical treatments, appointments, labs, seeing specialists, getting tests, IV’s, etc. Two years ago, I was trying to get my coaching business off the ground, but I was still working full-time and “managing” health issues. It was too much and I ended up getting really stressed and sick again last year and took three months off for medical leave. Since I was on paid medical leave, I couldn’t ethically promote and market my business in any way. I had to step away and trust that when I had the strength and energy, the timing would be right. It was very painful to stop working on my business. I wanted to help others going through stress and health issues. Instead, I felt sad, tired and powerless.
Eventually, I found a team of health professionals and mentors that showed me that this was the path; that I wasn’t off of my path just because I had to rest and heal. I trusted that this time would serve once again as a means to turn my pain into my purpose. Through loving and trusting myself and my body, the Universe and my intuition, I’d be able to serve others and have greater impact. When I returned to work, I knew I had to make some big and scary changes in my life. I wasn’t aligned with my high school teaching job anymore, but I was so scared to leave my full-time job. It was what I had done for 18+ years. I was really good at it and it was terrifying to jump into the unknown. I still had a lot of medical bills and I was desperate to keep my health insurance. I had heard the phrase, “jump and the net will appear” many times, but I somehow didn’t believe that it could apply to me.
Once I realized that stress and trauma surrounding my illness were impacting me so greatly, I began the process of loving my body and forgiving her. It’s a process to understand and trust the mind-body connection and heal the nervous system. I had put so much pressure on myself in the past. It was time to let that go and finally reset my nervous system. In terms of starting my own business, I had serious fears about “being seen,” since I was used to playing small and staying inside of my comfort zone for so long. I was scared of putting myself out there and not having the business skills to guide me. I felt judged by others, especially since I didn’t have all the answers and was still on my own journey. But I knew I could help others, and THAT became my focus.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I started Jeannie Kulwin Coaching to offer hope and healing to others, so they can live full, happy lives. I help overwhelmed and tired working professionals reduce anxiety, so they can have more energy, creativity and get more done. Unlike other coaching and talk therapies that focus on time management and willpower, I work with individuals on upgrading their thinking, so that taking good care of themselves becomes simple and fun. I work with clients who live anywhere because coaching sessions are via Skype. The sessions are personalized to fit the needs/desires/concerns of whatever is occurring in their lives and Breathwork can easily be incorporated with Skype as well. A lot of people have met me through my group Breathwork classes, private and couples’ sessions.
Many clients have shared that these sessions are “amazing, transformative and life-changing experiences.” In just 75 minutes, we are able to shut down the “inner critic” portion of the brain. One client’s first words after a session were “Jeannie, I can’t stop smiling.” Another client said her session was “euphoric.” This is because we are connecting with ourselves, opening our hearts and finally releasing suppressed emotions. For my local clients that live in LA, we create personalized packages of private one on one Breathwork and coaching together; whatever they desire for maximum support. I am so proud that I can truly help people at a very deep level and help heal trauma that has been plaguing them for many years. Talking to students and clients after a class is so fulfilling. Seeing people so happy and surprised by how quickly they have shifted their emotions is life-affirming and gratifying. There really are no words to describe the powerful transformation of Breathwork.
