Meet Jeanette Ramirez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Ramirez.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
To be completely honest for most of my life I haven’t considered myself an artist. Confidence to be able to call myself an artist or designer has come from years of fighting my self-doubt.

Better yet I like to call myself a Creative because that’s exactly what I am.
I live to create, and it’s in many different forms.

I’m not the typical “I grew up drawing” type of story. I’m actually not even that good at drawing. I grew up clueless about what I wanted to do in my life. I didn’t really draw or show artistic features growing up like most people would expect. I would hear the occasional ” your so creative” but didn’t know what that meant.

I would say I found myself through creating in my early 20’s when I started studying Visual Communications. I wasn’t sure it was for me, and I started to have doubts about the field, but with years and implementing style and things I loved to my design, I started to LOVE IT.

I think what helped me as well was that it was a bit challenging, because of the challenges it has forced me to face I learned to grow with it. I can’t see myself doing anything else but what I’m doing right now. It’s crazy what can happen if you just work and work on yourself and what you are capable of doing. It can really change your life and give it so much meaning.

Please tell us about your art.
There are a few things I like to do. First and foremost I am a graphic designer. I struggled so much with saying this one out loud lol. But at 28 years old I can say Design has given me a sense of confidence and power, especially being a female designer in a predominately male field.

I was intimidated a lot because I am a girl, but there is SO much that a male can’t portray sometimes and we too have just as importance, and our ideas should be considered and created the same. Woman Designers are the S%$!

I also have an online brand called “Sacred Snake.” I am a one woman ran shop. The branding, social media, photography, editing and sometimes even the modeling is all done by me. I even make my products as they are ordered.

I am the Creative Director for Sacred Snake. This brand is something I have secretly been wanting to create for years but was too scared to start. I make 70’s Inspired t-shirts and accessories I love that era! Having worked alongside other small businesses I had so much knowledge that I had taught myself how to go about starting a small business but the last thing I was waiting for was to teach myself how to believe in it.

I also make custom apparel, designs, logos, and work in social media for other small businesses or clients. I am a freelancer and a small business owner. I also have experience working in photography, videography and I am a certified makeup artist. I always strived to be well rounded.

I truly just want to create and express my creativity, I want to inspire and show that it is possible for me and for others who may struggle with confidence to find their passion. Ignore the doubts or negative words that go on in your head and eventually they won’t stop you anymore. Don’t compare yourself or your art. Trust the timing of your life, but keep working on becoming the person you were meant to be, and there is no telling what you will discover.

We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
It can definitely be lonely because I feel like to be able to really create YOU have to be alone. Its great hearing feedback from others but ultimately what goes on in YOUR mind is all on you. Only you can hear those voices in your head, only you can visualize it a certain way, and only you can feel it in your heart. When you design or create with passion, you feel it in your soul. I can even say sometimes you may even shed a tear. It’s very intimate especially if it means something to you. I think connecting with other artist is great because you just click. Your art doesn’t necessarily have to be the same but if the passion is that same thats all you really need. I have found comfort and inspiration from other artists on social media or art walks and have reached out with a comment or positive message. I know appreciation means a lot and thats how creatives start to support each other. I rather get complimented on my style or my art over looks any day. Complementing someone on their mind and soul means so much you have no idea!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I try my best to separate my brand and my work and myself.
