Meet Jeanette Chasworth of The Color Whisperer in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Chasworth.

Jeanette, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved furniture. When I was a kid, when other kids wanted toys and electronics, I wanted furniture. My mother was constantly changing the house around and my sister and I were her “crew.” Each incarnation had its good points and bad points. Each one was a new learning experience. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Literature because I love stories. Its history, sociology and psychology all rolled up in one. I took a class later at a community college in interior design and fell in love! When I realized I could take the best part of literature and add it to my passion for furniture that was it for me. I got an AA degree in Interior Design at the Fashion institute of Design and Merchandising. During my first few years of design practice, I discovered the power of color and interior design and just how much it affects our lives, our minds and our senses. I loved that the designs I created could change how someone felt, cure nightmares, improve sleep, create peace and relaxation and provide a home which fits their lifestyle as well as their spirit. The way these all intertwined had me fascinated. I took my love of color and design to new levels and wrote my best-selling book What’s Color Got to Do With it? (That’s why I’m known as The Color Whisperer, I am also the color expert for Fabulous Floors Magazine and even created a color palette for a recycled paint company.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road of the entrepreneur is not an easy one and there are always rough patches. It’s all about reinventing, retrying, recreating and never giving up. I have had the joy of learning and doing many things as an entrepreneur I never would have done in an office job. I am much more hands on, don’t like to be stuck in an office. I am an agent of change and I do my best work in the client’s home, getting my hands dirty, so to speak. That’s where the house speaks the loudest and that’s where the vision becomes real. I have done many radio, podcast and even some TV programs that are wonderful and I never would have done that being somebody’s employee. I became a speaker and love to speak to audiences about color and design. The joy of being an entrepreneur is that there is always something new to learn and new ways to expand yourself and your skills. Every day is a new adventure and new challenge and a new project. But those challenges can become joys.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Color Whisperer – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
One of the big questions I get is “what is a color whisperer?” or “Do I actually talk to colors or houses?” In a way, yes. Colors have energy, shapes have energy and texture has energy. Which of these you put in your home will affect how you feel in your home. Finding the right combination that reflects your energy gives you an environment that creates the perfect “homey” atmosphere for you. Creating a place that truly reflects your personality, your spirit and your character. What I do is I match these elements with you and your home. I “listen” with my mind, my heart and my soul to what you and your home needs and what will be best for everyone to create a home that is warm, inviting and reflects your lifestyle and personality. I love creating with my clients, figuring out what suits them best and how to make the biggest impact with it.

Your homes is a reflection of you. Have you ever said, oh the house is so messy, I can’t think. It’s true. It’s showing a cluttered mind. When you unclutter your home, it’s easier to think. The same is true for your home on a bigger scale. When you want to change how you look at yourself or want to recreate yourself, you change your home, create a fresh new look to reflect the new beginning that is happening in your world. Raising your image of you.

This is my passion as the color whisperer, Refresh, renew, revitalize. Recreate your home and recreate your life.

I have a few projects that stand out above the others because they were so creative. There’s something very exciting about the idea coming to life. And, of course, I am proud of my bestselling book, What’s Color Got To Do With It?

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Yes, I am currently working on creating some ecourses that will help people to understand color and what it can do to your home. I also have several speaking opportunities that I am excited about.
