Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaynee and Karl Singer.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always seen myself as an entrepreneur working as an actress and model. I have always loved fashion, putting together mood boards, and working with brands on their campaigns. So even though I didn’t anticipate launching a fashion startup, I am energized by the opportunity of running my own business.
I started to see a void in between the high-end luxury and fast fashion athleisure brands when shopping for myself. At the same time, I began noticing these influencers and celebrities trying to build their own brands. It seemed like a perfect marriage to take that mid-to-upper tier fashion space and combine it with these well-known personalities.
My husband had the knowledge of building retail strategies for SoulCycle, FlyWheel, and Barry’s Bootcamp in the private label space. As well, he had spent years building the infrastructure in manufacturing and product development. These areas were crucial for launching LA Collective. My husband (Karl Singer) used his expertise to find a warehouse, set up operations, and streamline the manufacturing process. We’re proud to not only be headquartered in LA but run manufacturing operations from LA as well. If you are going to partner with your spouse, I would advise you to manage expectations and delegate different responsibilities to each other. Most importantly, you need to make sure both of you are passionate about what you are doing and have the same end goal because you are in it 24/7.
The most rewarding aspect of being an entrepreneur when it comes to LA Collective is seeing our customer wearing the product, tagging us in their photos and raving about it. It makes all the endless hours of perfecting one legging or sports bra worth it.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business is never a smooth road. You are always faced with obstacles in scale and how to maintain your core principles. Building a strong founding team we have learned is extremely important. We always look to have great people around us who share in our long term vision. You can’t do it all at once if you want longevity. We have a five-year plan in place that we’re working towards.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We launched LA Collective in 2016 as a full-service fashion incubator bringing celebrity & influencer brands to market. The vertical brings a seamless platform of design, development, manufacturing, marketing, and fulfillment. It is transforming the fashion industry and providing an architecture for celebrities and influencers to bring their vision of their brands to reality. Our first capsule collection, Morgan Stewart Sport became an overnight success and is now a staple with A-list stars such as Khloe Kardashian, Olivia Culpo and Nicky Hilton. LA Collective’s model proved to be successful with Jaynee leading the creative with talent, and Karl managing the back end operations. The next brand, Ren Active, was launched in 2017 with Instagram sensation Alexis Ren. This collection also turned out to be an instant success as it attracted Ren’s millions of followers that kept up with her active lifestyle.
Using all our expertise & knowledge we have gained in the industry, we launched our house brand, VITA LA. VITA LA is an intersection of all of our brands that really captures the LA lifestyle for women everywhere.
We have several new collaborations rolling out in 2019/2020. Additionally, we are building a broader platform that houses talent-driven brands that fuse LA fashion, fitness, and celebrity culture together.
