Meet Jay Novak of Modernica in Central

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Novak.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jay. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started at the tail end of 1989 with an infatuation with the indigenous California design that evolved here post World War II.

In the early days, we mostly sold vintage items that were very scarce and pricey, and we found that if we manufactured these items, it would confirm to the Modernist credo, “the best for the most for the least”.

Our manufacturing capabilities evolved over the years, to now include very sophisticated woodworking, upholstery, and fiberglass technologies.

We’d like to think that our new, original designs are a worthy legacy of the classical Modernists.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Early on, the general populace found the aesthetic archaic. Over time, with the influence of the media, the beauty and significance became well-recognized and appreciated.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We manufacture at our own factory in the Los Angeles area and oversee the entire process from the first sketch to the finished product.
