Meet Jason Tolerico of One-Timers Personal Bar Review Course

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Tolerico.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jason . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Its funny you should ask. Growing up I always loved teaching. But for whatever reason, I chose to law school instead of pursuing a career in education, While I was still in law school and searching for a prep course, I visited a company that would later be one of my competitors. I sat in on a lecture and I couldn’t believe how terrible it was. I knew more about the subject than the instructor did and I was a only a student! He was a licensed attorney. It was at that moment I realized I found my calling. I was going to create the very best bar prep program anyone had ever seen. I didn’t realize until much later that I figured out a way to combine my love of teaching and the law. I guess I have my competition to thank for the inspiration.

How did I get here? What’s that saying. “what a long strange trip it’s been”? It wasn’t easy. I had no idea how I was going to start. I didn’t know how to find students. I didn’t have study materials. But I soon discovered that I was pretty good at this. The materials I developed and refined over the years my students love because they have never seen anything like them. Finally, they were able to clearly understand concepts that were a blur in law school. My students were passing after failed attempts elsewhere. I was on to something. I didn’t have to worry about attracting new students because my current students did that for me. Word of mouth kept filling up my classroom. I was changing the way students were thinking about bar preparation.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ha! As I alluded in the previous question. It was crazy. No, it was definitely not easy.

Everything was a struggle. I had to build a company through trial and error. I knew nothing about web development, publishing or technology and suddenly I had to be an expert at everything – hiring a team, finding vendors and such. When employees hear about the early years of One-Timers, they look at me in disbelief and wonder how I was able to do it all. I was seriously a one-man band for many years.

I always believed in what I was doing and building. There was a lot of sacrifice on my part – like three years of my social life. I was a hermit. Writing, coaching students and all the back-end business that needs to be taken care of. I wanted One-Timers to be the very best bar prep program on the market and I was willing to put in the work to make that a reality. I was never satisfied, I kept looking (and still do) for ways to make the program better for my students. Looking back, its all kind of a blur now.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with One-Timers Personal Bar Review Course – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
One-Timers Personal Bar Review Course is a program that assists bar exam candidates to prepare for the most important exam of their lives – The California Bar Exam. We offer courses held for 10 weeks before the bar exam is administered. We specialize in the California Bar Exam but we have assisted students as well. Our program includes live classes, simulated tests, course materials and online study as well. We cover all aspects of the California Bar including the MBE’s. which many competitors do not yet it comprises 50% of the exam score!

We are best known for two things. First, the personal attention our students receive, the quality of our study materials and we are one of the only companies where students have access to their instructor 24/7. We stay with our students during and after the exam. Second, we are known for our MBE prep and our Best Multis online study program. It is by far the very best MBE program anywhere.

I am most proud of the fact we have the best study materials on the market. They are concise, easy to understand and have made the difference for a countless number of bar-takers. I am also very proud to say no one has ever taken a One-Timers course, failed and went on to pass studying with a competitor. However, we do have many students who came to us after taking a (or several) competing course, failed and went on to pass with our program. Our competitors can’t say that.

Being a part of One-Timers is like being a part of a family. We genuinely care about the success of each of our students. We work hard to give them the resources and encouragement they need to be successful Students can call us at any time day, night or weekend with questions. Someone is always there to pick up the phone.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking forward to continued growth and bringing One-Timers to other states. As California continues to grow, we are looking to bring more live local classes. We also continue to strive to streamline our processes as a company and always look for new ways to improve our student’s bar prep experience.
