Meet Jason and Gorjana Reidel of Gorjana in Laguna Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason and Gorjana Reidel.

Jason and Gorjana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We started on our apartment floor, never with the vision of actually building a business or brand. This was just supposed to be the thing we did, until we got one of our many ideas off the ground. Ironically, this one the one thing that wasn’t an idea and ended up being a global brand. I love the old saying, “life is what happens when your busy making other plans”.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. Nothing worth anything in life comes easily. It may seem that way to people on the outside, but any achievement worth noting, comes with bumps and bruises. Love the book by Malcolm Gladwell, “Outliers”, takes a minimum of 10,000 hours to build something, which is even really the short end in my opinion.

I remember being at our first NYC trade show in January of 2005, so 13 years ago, and we had taken all the money we had to get to NYC and participate in a 3-day show. We missed our flight there, had no money to check into a hotel and then learned our displays for the show we’re in a train accident due to snow in Ohio and weren’t going to arrive. We borrowed $200 from someone to rent a truck to drive to New Jersey and purchase materials from IKEA to make a new display. We ended up having a great show, selling over $50k in sales but the excitement wore off quickly, once we realized, we had no money to make any of the orders.

Please tell us about Gorjana.
We specialize in being original creators of amazing jewelry designs that appeal to women of all ages and styles, while being able to offer these designs at a very reasonable price, with a lifetime guarantee. We start trends that others copy. Whether it being Versatile Pieces, Layering, Power Gemstones, Intention, you name it, we were first to come up with ideas. We like to think of ourselves as the Nikola Tesla of Fashion Jewelry.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Sitting around a large table having dinner with all of my family. Everyone laughing and enjoying themselves.
