Meet Jason Morin of Shift Bicycle in Redondo Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Morin.

Jason, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Bikes have been a passion for me since a very young age. By the age of 12 I was road bike racing and working on bikes, and even spending some time apprenticing at a local shop. I grew up in the South Bay, and this has always been an amazing place to ride.

I picked up racing and working on bikes again about 10 years ago, While I was working as a Chef in Aspen, CO, I had the summers free and began the mobile bike business. I realized that people desired something that was more convenient, faster, and more personal.

This past year I decided to expand the business and purchased a Dodge Sprinter to outfit for my needs. I did all the customization to the van myself. It has been a joy to work in, and my customers have been very pleased with their experiences.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a fairly smooth process. Some of the challenges I’ve encountered have been making people feel comfortable with an entirely new way to think about servicing their bikes. It is unfamiliar to many, so it isn’t always an easy sell. Once people experience it themselves or hear from others they are usually convinced by the superior service.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Shift Bicycle – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a mobile bike shop. This means that we come to you to service your bikes. We carry a large selection of replacement parts so we can complete most any repair without delay. Our prices are very competitive, and most likely less that you will pay at your local shop. We are a dealer for many bike parts brands, and can even get complete bikes.

We specialized in higher end road, mountain, and triathlon bikes. We even perform complex suspension overhauls for mountain bikes.

I am most proud of our attention to detail. This means taking time to use the right parts and the right procedure without shortcuts. Modern bikes can be quite complex and proprietary and need to be serviced by someone who will take the time to do it right.

What sets us apart from others is our courtesy and professionalism. You will not experience a bad or elitist attitude at Shift. Also, with Shift, you are not waiting a week or more for you bike. We come to you, on your schedule, and complete the service right there.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to keep expanding the business by adding more brands of complete bikes that customers can custom order.
