Meet Jason Agraz of Plyogen Health & Fitness in Glendora

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Agraz.

Jason, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Although I had always been pretty active, I would say that my story really all began after a doctor visit some years back in the early 2000’s. At that time, I had just closed my Real Estate and Mortgage business and got a job in finance doing fairly well for myself. With all the freedom of single guy making decent money, the nightlife was of exceptional frequency. Although quite aware of the need for leading a healthy lifestyle, I wasn’t doing such a good job at it at that time in my life.

With the amount of drinking I was doing and treating my body poorly on a very regular basis, coupled with an intensely stressful career, I was putting myself six feet under in a hurry!

It wasn’t long after that I had put on a massive amount of weight and started experiencing a number of health issues not typical of someone in their mid 20’s. I was a mess in a number of ways. High Blood Pressure, constant indigestion, Insomnia, frequent chest pains, blurred vision, ringing in my ear, you name it. Of course, this was all bad and all caused by my lifestyle. I was pretty convinced it was time to seek medical attention.

This is where Plyogen was conceived only I hadn’t realized it just yet.

I had visited my doctor several times and at each visit they said that my BP was so high it was enough to urge an immediate visit to the ER. After a number of visits and a whole lot of convincing, I had accepted the prescribed medications. A pill for my BP, one to “take the edge off” and another to help correct sleep issues. I couldn’t believe that at my age I needed all these pills. So… I had decided to get a second opinion and it was the same story. It was said that there was really no other way. “You need the medication and if you don’t take it, you’ll end up having a stroke or likely a heart attack.”

About a month into popping all these pills everyday, my BP had dropped, but was lethargic all day, damn near comatose in conversation and couldn’t wait to get home for a nap. This experience was pretty much the straw that broke the camel’s back. This was completely out of character for me. I immediately called bullshit on all of it!

At first chance, I dumped all the pills and decided to change up my habits and pull back on the throttle a bit. I took a full 180 on my eating habits, started blending every day, prepping my meals for the week and keeping it real clean. Working out was back in the picture as well. Although, I have to say exercise was a hell of a lot more difficult then I had remembered. As funny as it may sound, my first one-mile run was a damn near death experience, didn’t think I would make it home that day. Needless to say, it wasn’t long before I was back to the old regimen, hitting the gym hard 5 times a week.

A month later and several pounds lighter, I had my follow up doctor’s visit. The doctor was amazed by how low my BP was and how all my other issues had been corrected. My numbers were looking good and the doctor was very pleased with the results, but when I had told him that I had tossed out all the meds a few weeks into taking them and changed my eating habits and picked up physical activity, he was not happy about it. Insisted that the meds were necessary. The conversation going forward became more of reprimanding than anything else. That was the last time I had visited that office.

At that point, I knew that there was a better way of correcting common ailments and living optimally, that I wanted to do something greater than working at some shitty job in an even shittier financial institution. I wanted to do all that I could to improve the lives of others and to better educate people who rely so needlessly on the pharmaceutical industry to correct otherwise easily correctable conditions. This is where I believe I really began my journey to where I am now.  Everyday I wake up looking forward to doing what I’m most passionate about.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. Every last penny earned and invested in this endeavor had been on my own steam. No seeking out loans from friends, no money from mom and dad, uncles or aunts. The necessary capital to open and maintain operations when launching the business I’d say was one of the biggest struggles of all. You can get pretty close to knowing what the initial costs to get your business off the ground should be, but often account for much less than expected, and that’s never fun.

Some other challenges where developing an effective system that would guarantee results and could easily be delivered and implemented. Though, I am quite pleased to say that all the research and hard work has paid off. You’ll always run into naysayers ready to crush your plans, and not many lending hands, but during that time you also get to find out who your biggest supporters are.

Which reminds me… Big thanks to my close buddies Oscar Leal & Ray Lara for being a big part of Plyogen’s development, and of course thanks to my beautiful lady Gabby for always having my back.

Plyogen Health & Fitness – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Plyogen Health & Fitness is most definitely a White-Glove service that delivers an all inclusive, very exclusive experience to its members.

We have designed our programs and an environment specifically to meet the needs of the busy Business Owner and Corporate Professional alike.

Our 5 Point System creates the platform for these types of individuals to further thrive in their careers and in their personal lives. Each program is designed entirely around the individual’s particular needs as no one person’s needs are the same.

What am I most proud about? I am proud of the fact that I stayed true to my pursuit when everybody said that I would not find success in my business model, and that the only way to success is to be just like every other gym… I didn’t fold and thriving more than ever now.

I am also proud of the fact that our clients are of like mind and are good people that enjoy our services, and that they have the desire to succeed at the goals they have set out to achieve. They are driven to continually improve themselves and now lead healthier lives because of the actions they’ve taken.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Difficult to say. I experience so many great moments on a regular basis. I suppose one thing that does tend to stand out a bit is the moment that my client finally realizes their potential and understands how to effectively perform at levels they never thought they could.
