Meet Jasmine Stovall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Stovall.

Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my makeup artistry back in 2001. Whew feels like a lifetime ago. I was just 16 years old. My bloodline has a longline of artists from design, to painting to seamstresses. I was destined to conquer this trade. I started doing makeup when I was a teen. I remember the first lipstick that my mom bought me. It was called “Blue Jam” by Clinique. I wore it everyday. It was glossy with a tinge of blue and I paired it with my chocolate NYX lip liner from the drug store. I would go to school and all of my friends would ask me to share my lip combo on them. It was kinda special in that way. I remember using my allowance money to purchase makeup. I would save up for my favorite brand “MAC Cosmetics” I mean this is when they were the only brand to carry out of this world colors with amazing consistency. Of course, a little clout came with pulling one of their tubes out of your makeup bag. I would walk to the counter and my heart would beat with excitement. All of the beautiful artists that worked there; Gods in my eyes. As soon as I turned 18 I was recruited by the manager to be a part of the MAC family. The beginning of my dreams had started to come true.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say my journey has been really smooth to say the least. I absolutely love to help people feel their best self. My artistry goes hand in hand with that. I have never felt uncomfortable with myself in my career. That to me was God showing me that I was in the right place.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been a professional makeup artist for a total of 20 years. Writing that number gives me chills. Wow, amazed at how fast the time goes by. I have had the opportunity to do some pretty amazing things. Countless award shows, photo shoots and weddings. I have been hired for some pretty special moments in people’s lives. I am known for my artistry of course, but I would say what sets me apart is my selflessness. I love to give. I treat my clients as I would my family and have built some great relationships throughout the years.

I am proud that I never gave up on myself. I as everyone else, have experienced some tough life trials. Ive always known what I wanted. I have pushed myself to get it.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
God first, so thankful that I have knowledge and a relationship with him.

I feel right where I need to be.

Next, I would say the women in my family.

My grandmother instilled some pretty encouraging words and morals inside of me as a child. I never felt like there was something that I wouldn’t be able to do. My mother is just amazing as well.

She was a stay at home mom from the time I was 7 years old. She has never missed one program, game, dance, up or down in my life. She is my rock.

Also, my sisters. There are three of us.

Somehow as you grow, everything just balances out. You start to see each other as best friends…that is my favorite part.
