Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Bouzaglou.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Six months into our relationship Jared and I decided we wanted to start a candle company. Both having a lot of creative energy to use we were quick to buy all the supplies and get going. We never anticipated just how tricky it would be to start a company and are still figuring out the quirks, but we both love where the business is headed and have high hopes for Jade and Juniper.
Both having a love for making goods and loving candles, it was only natural that that was the first product we made. Jared having a background in graphic design was able to use his artistic skills and creativity to brand our candles and Palo Santo bundles. I also come from a family of creatives that are artists, jewelry makers, and ceramicists, so it was natural that I found myself having the desire to also be a maker. Jared and I both agree that candles have played a huge role in our self-care routine growing up and even now, along with some peppermint tea and a good book. We currently sell candles and Palo Santo bundles, but in the future, we hope to expand to other apothecary items and goods.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has definitely not been a smooth road! We watched hundreds of tutorials online and where we could find the best supplies. It was definitely a lot of trial and error in the beginning, due to false information online about how to make candles. It wasn’t until Jared and I finally took a candle making class did it all start to make sense. There is a delicate science to candle-making that not a lot of people know about. One particular struggle we came across was how to get that perfect candle that doesn’t tunnel down to the middle as it burns. That was always my pet peeve when buying candles and I wanted to make sure that our candles didn’t do that! After a lot of experimentation, we were able to find a way to prevent this from happening.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jade And Juniper Goods – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Jared and I are the two owners of Jade and Juniper Goods. Jared does branding, website upkeep, ordering supplies, shipping and making candles. I, on the other hand, do social media, collaboration outreach, shipping, and making candles. As a company, we make 100% Coconut Wax Candles and sell Palo Santo Bundles. Our candles are known for a clean aesthetic of white on white. We believe that by having a candle that is very minimalist its versatile in that it can fit into many individuals homes. We are also known for using 100% Coconut Wax in our candles, many other candles brands use soy, paraffin, or beeswax. Coconut wax is one of the most sustainable waxes you can use for candles. Our candles are phthalate free. eco-friendly, and long-lasting.
We are most proud of being a part of the maker’s community. We love being a small business and making small-batch candles. Things may change as our business grows, but we really appreciate the art of slowing down and physically making a product that can bring so much joy into people’s lives.
What sets us apart from others is that Jared and I personally make each and every candle with love in our Culver City apartment. We use the finest wax and only high-quality fragrance oils.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our plans for the future is to make other apothecary items such as salt scrubs, linen sprays, lotions, etc. We also are planning on creating shirts with some of Jared’s drawings on them ( he is a great artist), in the future. We are currently considered a candle brand but hope expand to other apothecary items, clothing, and home goods. We plan on doing more market events, so keep your eye out for us!
