Meet Jared Stanfield of Bar 10 in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Stanfield.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in South Carolina and moved to New York when I was 17. I lived there for almost 16 years before I decided to move LA. During that time, I worked in numerous restaurants and bars. Everything from fine dining to dive bars. I really began appreciating what the hospitality industry meant to me and that was being able to give people joy and truly memorable experiences by creating an atmosphere for them. The last 4 years I was in NY, I worked at a bar called Industry. It’s also where the current owner of Bar 10 worked as well. I finally had enough of the cold and darkness of NY and set my sight on greener pastures, so I moved to LA.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Life is full obstacles, I believe that you can make it through anything, but with that being said, one of the biggest of life’s obstacles to overcome, is yourself. I always got in my way. Unfortunately in life, a lot of us don’t have a compass, so we are blindly looking for our purpose or a goal that’s going to fulfill us in some way. That’s what I was doing. So, I never felt happy or fulfilled, always felt like I was on the outside of my life looking through a window. It wasn’t until the last 4 years of NY that I finally was able to find inner peace and courage to really grab what I truly wanted in life and that was freedom.

Freedom from self-doubt, anxiety, depression, all of the negative feelings that grab hold us and keep us from greatness.

Bar 10 – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bar 10 is a unique experience in WEHO. We’ve made ourselves an inclusive environment and everyone is welcomed. Our bar and restaurant is a neighborhood spot and we haven’t forgotten the people that make us who we are. We pride ourselves on the fact you will never pay a cover, the pool table is always free to play, and our food is simple and delicious. Sometimes you just feel like just having chicken tenders, fries covered in whatever your heart desires, a house made vegan burger or even fried green tomatoes. Its American comfort food and it doesn’t get any better than that. Our drinks are reasonably priced and at Happy Hour getting a vodka soda for $4 dollars is even better. $1 oysters? We have those everyday. Our weekday nights are just as exciting as our weekends. Mondays, we have Karaoke with Chocolate Bunny (yeah you read that right), Tuesday nights are called Off the Strip where anyone with a talent can perform and possibly win $250 dollars, Thursdays we go Red with Melissa Be Fierce where anything can happen. Feel like letting loose and going crazy? Well then Friday and Sat is all for you with DJs Patrick Kuzara and John Lock. Sunday, come right back for our $18 bottomless mimosas, chicken and waffles with your brunch hostess, Billy Francesca and DJ Ray Rhodes. The main thing I can say about our bar is it feels like a second home, it’s always fun to be here and it’s a party where everyone is invited.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is sharing. We have created a safe environment where people can be themselves, whatever that may be. To be able to share that and see the joy in a person eyes because they just had the best night of their lives, that is an amazing feeling to have. Its fulfilling and what makes us human, the betterment of another person’s life, even if it’s only for a moment.
