Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Lorenzo.
Jared, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At the beginning of 2019, I decided to launch my own company Sooner Or Lady in hopes of creating a “creative space for Freexpression”. With the lack of representation and easy money plot schemes within television and film, I wanted to create stories that are riveting and refreshing for the viewer. I’ve written now two features and a handful of pilots working with other collaborative writers as well.
Another exciting venture with Sooner Or Lady is it’s also a record label. More focused on 100% artist rights and royalties mostly compromising compilations from a different artist. I’ve grown up auditioning and taking classes since I was seven. I understand how it works, I just want to bring more change with Sooner Or Lady in terms of content.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s not easy that’s for sure. Especially when it comes to getting all the missing pieces together for funding a film. There are many small details I learned when attending the festival circuit last year (Berlinale, Cannes), and sometimes you have some parts to the puzzle, however, to make the puzzle complete (and this is just pre-production) there’s much more than meets the eye. This is why I have started to find other people interested in working with Sooner Or Lady that believe in the mission, and our aim to provide solid entertainment.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am mostly known for being an Actor and Musician. I DJ’d my first major festival last summer, and have performed in Tokyo several times. So I guess one could say this is what I am known for.
In terms of Sooner Or Lady, this is combining my love for all my skills into one umbrella that not only covers me but gives the platform for other artists to do the same. Before I started this company officially I Co-Executive Produced a pilot for my first script I wrote “Foxxx David”. Looking back, I believe this is my proudest moment, regardless of the outcome, because I saw my capability with writing and how it plays on camera. I remember in acting skill at university, this professor who wasn’t very fond of me told me I had “a very idiosyncratic personality” he also mentioned how I view things is not like ones would normally see the world (I guess in term of my acting choices too). At first, I took this to heart, but over time, I realised this is what sets me apart from everyone else. My unique take on the world, and I definitely feel I put this into my writing.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I spent my teenage years into adulthood in Mid City. This is the L.A. I know. It’s central, I can get around quickly which is nice. In terms of L.A. in general, I love the food culture, the health focus within that culture as well. However, the homeless situation is an absolute terror our city has to more to amend this situation.
