Today we’d like to introduce you to Janis Manacsa and Avery Kinghorn.
Hi Janis and Avery, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourselves
Avery and I both come from the world of Residential Interior Design and Remodeling. We were both directors at the same company for about 8 years and managed teams of 15+ staff members and designers. As much as we both loved creating beautiful spaces, we saw how burnt out our staff was and how the extensive work took a toll on their health and personal lives.
Not only did we witness this, but we experienced it for ourselves. We were working 10 -14 hour days, and rarely spent any personal time for ourselves or with our children and families. We were often sick from over-exhaustion and a weak immune system, not to mention the high-level stress.
We decided to resign from our high-level jobs and explore different wellness services for a year to see if we could find a holistic service that we both resonated with that we could offer to Bay Area residents. In our search, we came upon Sea Salt Therapy. Halotherapy was something we had never heard about before and we were really blown away by the therapy, but felt that our overall experience was lacking.
We love to strategize for fun, so we came up with an entire business strategy after our session.
When we saw that the business was for sale, we knew it was fate. We purchased the business in the middle of the pandemic and decided to rebrand the business, renovate the space, and create a client experience that would empower Bay Area individuals and families to take care of their health.
We are consistently touched and amazed to see the amount of love and care that our clients show towards each other, their friends, and their families. Entire families come to the center to address chronic respiratory issues and pain through the services that we provide.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have definitely been some challenges on our journey so far. We were broken into on our 3rd month of operations and initially had some questionable characters who had some inappropriate requests. As a women-owned business, in the holistic spa industry, we definitely had to consider safety measures.
Additionally, Avery and I put everything that we have into the business so it is something we hold sacred. Every penny counts but we refuse to let our service quality deteriorate or suffer. Our clients’ experience is the most important thing to us, so we continue to assess and evaluate our processes every step of the way to ensure we offer an experience to be remembered. Please remove.
We always find ways to turn challenges into strengths and the break-in brought Loki Love (the best dog anyone could ask for) into our lives. Our clients absolutely adore him and members of the community stop by just to say hi. He makes everyone’s day!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Sea Salt Therapy offers holistic services that address chronic respiratory symptoms, skin conditions, and chronic pain.
Salt therapy helps clients with asthma, allergies, sinusitis, COPD, bronchitis, and other respiratory symptoms, including post-Covid congestion and fatigue. Clients who suffer from skin conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis, rosacea, and eczema also benefit from the therapy. Lastly, the negative ions found in salt help reduce feelings of anxiety, stress, and depression.
We also offer Chromotherapy and Infrared Heat technology which addresses deep systems of the body such as the digestive system, circulatory system, nervous system, and respiratory system. Infrared heat technology also offers pain relief from inflammation in the body.
Our services include:
Halotherapy (Salt Therapy):
– Private Salt Room: The room is covered from floor to ceiling in sea salt, while pharmaceutical grade salt is blown and dispersed into the air. The room is designed for private parties and accommodates up to 5 adults and two children 6 years and under. The room also features premium cable channels, toys for the children, and photo props.
– Community Salt Room: Same as above but designed for individuals who experience the therapy on their own. The room accommodates up to 4 individuals and panels offer semi-privacy for each client. The community room was designed to help clients with the cost due to needing therapy multiple times a week.
– Salt Booth/Infrared Sauna: The Salt Booth offers 3 holistic services in one. Salt Therapy, Chromotherapy, and Infrared Sauna. It can accommodate up to two individuals.
– Migun Physiotherapy Massage Table – The Migun Physiotherapy Massage table is a Class II, FDA Approved medical device that features infrared heat. It addresses chronic pain in the shoulders, back, hips and legs. The infrared heat also allows the body to detox.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
JM: Swimming in the ocean. I grew up in Okinawa which is a small island in Japan. The water is crystal clear and I loved swimming with the fish.
AK: Laying in a hammock overlooking Dana Passage (Washington State) listening to the sounds of Indian Summer. The perfect end to a day of running through sprinklers, riding bikes with friends, and eating perfect Wenatchee-grown peaches!
