Meet Janet Von of Decibel Media Group in East LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Von.

Janet, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My fascination with TV and film started at an early age which led me to become a commercial actress in Orlando, featured in ads for DisneyWorld and Universal Studios Parks & Resorts. I knew my end goal was moving to Los Angeles. When I turned 18, I left Orlando and moved to LA which allowed me more access to television and commercial sets and introduced me to a curiosity for the work that’s done behind the camera!

So at that point, I’d fallen in love with production and the creative driving force of being a producer. That’s when I decided. Somehow, someway, that’s what I want to do. Because I was able to be on so many different kinds of sets, I was exposed to a lot of talent and listened and contributed to a lot of their worries about being in the industry, which prompted me then to say to myself “I can do it all. I can bet on myself, invest my time and energy into creating the stories, as well as helping talent navigate through this crazy entertainment industry.” So, I started my own company producing and managing talent and I’ve never been happier. I get to work on the creative projects that really excite me and I get to help shape the future entertainment careers of the talent I manage. What could be better?

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe that any time you make a big change in your life or are faced with a massive choice that could make or break your business, you’re running the risk of having some massive hurdles to leap over. I’ll be completely transparent here; considering the current state of the world and some minor bumps and bruises along the way, I’d say that I’m very fortunate with how my story has played out and continues to do so; but there has been one thing I’ve struggled a bit within this business but I have faith and working evidence that I soon won’t have an issue with it and thats a lack of experience.

So I may not have 10-15 years of experience under my belt, but what I lack there, I match with tenacity, drive, hard work, passion and dedication that would give anyone around me the impression that I’ve been doing this my entire life. I also believe that my team and my mindset have a lot to do with my success and I really am grateful for the cards that I’ve been dealt. Lastly, I’d be remiss without acknowledging and thanking the producers, writers, directors and actors who’ve taken a chance on me even though I haven’t been around as long as my peers.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Decibel Media Group – what should we know?
Decibel Media Group is a one stop shop for pretty much all Entertainment and Social Media Marketing needs. Overall, we are a media and management group but I like to have my hands in a lot of different pots. We’re involved in everything from pitching and booking talent, to creating websites and connecting brands with influencers on Instagram and TikTok to create content for social media marketing campaigns. We also work with musicians and oversee all of their marketing, management, tour creation, and scheduling, as well as produce various kinds of television shows and film.

As a team of very passionate and hardworking people, I’d have to say what sets us apart from others in this business is our communication style; both in house and out. It is rare that we are not all on the same page, and our communication is open, strong and it’s something that we pride ourselves on. Plus, every person involved with DMG have similar personal life goals and we all see the bigger picture as far as the company is concerned. The vision we have is clear and we stop at nothing to continue to succeed.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Well, based on my own experiences, I’d have to say my social skills. I’m an absolute people person; there are very few circumstances in which I’ve encountered someone I was unable to connect with. I’ll strike up a conversation with anyone, from anywhere, about anything; I just really love being able to find a common ground. I also really enjoy hearing other people’s stories and learning about the intricacies of their lives; it’s something I find truly fascinating.

I should also thank my martial arts background and family for putting me in social situations at a very young age, They required me to be social, look people in the eye, and give a strong handshake. I truly think learning those skills early on, made all the difference in my professional and personal success.
