Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Roth.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Janet. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In all my years in the entertainment business I’ve gone through a number of portrait photographers, hoping each time to get headshots that would represent me the best and look like me. Believe it or not, it’s been a bigger challenge than I ever expected. I realized that many photographers can do a decent job taking portraits, but it’s rare to find a photographer who can capture a human being in a single portrait representing that person in the best light possible. This is where my passion stems from, despite the fact that I’ve enjoyed shooting portraits for years. Being on both sides of the camera, I know what it’s like to be photographed and I create an environment that helps me solve this problem. I get a great deal of fulfillment taking portraits of people who end up liking their pictures, who weren’t able to get what I give them anywhere else.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Living in LA is a challenge, period. I originally come from the Ukraine, and it took me a while to travel the world and figure out that LA was my home. It took even longer to start feeling comfortable in LA. Today, I definitely feel more grounded and the biggest reward for me is making people around me happy.
Please tell us about Janet Roth Photography.
My specialty is headshots and portraits. I specialize in taking photos of actors and business professionals that capture their essence and represent them in the best light.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
It’s funny that I’m gonna mention a memory that has to do with picture-taking, yet one of my favorite childhood memories is the first photoshoot that I can recall when I was four years old while playing with a cat. Every now and then I look over those photos, and needless to say the memories I have are different from the way the photos turned out. That cat was probably the most submissive animal I’ve ever met. It’s hard to believe all the ways it would bend and allow me to hold it. Good thing I wasn’t allergic to cats back then!
