Meet Janessa Morgan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janessa Morgan.

Janessa Morgan was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and also raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where she was trained as an opera singer. She began acting because my boyfriend told her that she needed to find something to do other than be up under him. Fathom that. She did a random audition at the Black Repertory Company (which happened to be located in the same building as the temp job that she was working) and coincidentally landed the role of Sarah in Ragtime. She had no idea what that was nor how she’d gotten cast. She just showed up when the owner told her to. Lol. From there, Janessa also participated in a burlesque show and then a tribute concert to Whitney Houston.

Shortly afterwards, she happened to take a trip to The Smoky Mountains where I did an impromptu audition and landed the role of Leading Lady in The Soul of Motown show and America’s Hit Parade, performing over 400 live shows per year. Based on her exquisite talent, a Los Angeles Entertainment guru advised Janessa to either relocate to New York or L.A. She chose Los Angeles because New York was just a little too chilly for her. From there, acting has been her total passion which includes her having walked away from two full-time jobs to follow her dreams with two teenagers. Along the way, this has included being homeless a few times but they are making it work and they are having fun while doing it…..

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh goodness, no. The road has been far from smooth but not impossible for the resilient and persevering actor, vocalist, host, voiceover actor, Janessa Morgan.

– Janessa’s little brother passed
– Being a single parent their entire lives
– Being homeless six times in her life
– Survivor of abuse as a child
– Survivor of abuse as an adult
– Having to turn down dream jobs due to a lack of support with her children

What else should our readers know?
Janessa is the following:
– Actor
– Opera singer
– Dancer
– All genres vocalist
– Voiceover actor

Janessa is most proud of her resilience and success in a great single parent while pursuing her dreams as an actor. What sets Janessa apart from others is her ability to not wear her pain on her sleeve while encouraging others no matter what she is going through.

What were you like growing up?
Janessa was very optimist, jovial and quite goofy growing up. Though she had an abusive childhood, she thrived academically and socially. She always participated in staged productions in school and excelled academically.
