Meet Janeiro Lott of The OC Lash Loft in Irvine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janeiro Lott.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Janeiro. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
From as long as I can remember, I have always loved everything in the beauty industry: hair, makeup, nails. My mom is a glamour girl and I can remember as a child, watching her transform herself with makeup before she and my father would go out. She would also take me with her for her bimonthly nail appointments, in high school, I took all AP classes but I really wanted to go to vocational school so that I could learn how to do nails. But growing up in Michigan my mom (who was a teacher) was a very strong proponent of getting a college education so she put the kabosh on those plans! Lol! I graduated from the University of Michigan and started a career in public relations and then account management. My nice safe job in corporate America with benefits. I wasn’t happy so I decided to go to esthetician school.

I worked full time and went to esthetician part time and absolutely loved learning about the skin, waxing and makeup. But because I was a single girl living on my own, I didn’t want to give up my secure 9-5 job so I would do wedding makeup on the weekends and wax my coworker’s eyebrows during lunch in the conference room. Once I married my husband and moved to California, I was interviewing for PR jobs and not getting them, probably because I didn’t want to do them and I was super burned out. So, one day my husband Ronnie said, “You have your esthetician license, why don’t you look for something in the beauty industry?” And that’s where my career in eyelash extensions began. I literally just answered an ad on craigslist 8 years ago to work at an eyelash extension salon. The owner didn’t want you to have any prior training because she wanted me to learn the correct way. And as they say the rest is history. I worked there for a year and a half and then left there and rented a few rooms in salon and spas. My clientele continued to grow until I got to the point where I was turning customers away and my husband said, “You should open up your own salon.” I was super nervous but I took a leap of faith and the salon will be celebrating 2 years of being open in September! My husband has been my biggest motivator and for that I am truly grateful.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think you can talk to any business owner and they will all answer this question the same……It has not always been a smooth road but it has definitely taught me lessons about running a business. Some of the struggles in the beginning were finding the right people to work in my salon. People that love the beauty industry as much as I do and care about our clients and providing the best customer service ever. At this point, I have a great team of talented women who share a passion for the beauty industry.

Another struggle was dealing with the fact that we can’t make every client happy. When I worked on my own, I was so used to everyone being happy and them always loving their eyelash extensions. All of my clients were through referral. Now that we’re dealing with the general public, I’ve learned that some people will never be happy. I tell my staff, as long as they’ve done the best they can that is all that matters.

Please tell us about The OC Lash Loft.

What sets The OC Lash Loft apart from others is our customer service. I designed the salon with the complete customer experience in mind. We have private rooms where they’re able to choose the type of music they prefer so they’re able to relax and unwind. I call all of our new clients personally to make sure they’ve had a wonderful experience at our salon.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly cannot think of anything that I would’ve done differently.

Everything that’s happened, happened for a reason and made me the business owner that I am today. I’ve learned from all of my mistakes.
