Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Tsui.
Jane, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a passion for cosmetics and science, and I ended up on the cosmetic chemistry industry! I worked at a contract manufacturer and on the brand side, but ultimately found my happy place which was creating products in the lab. I decided to build my own lab this past year so that I could have a “creative playground”, so to speak, and have been loving working with people who want to build brands! I also started posting about this journey on tiktok and found a community who shared the same passions as me 🙂
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were definitely struggles along the way — self-doubt, financial risk, and sometimes failing at creating the product I wanted! But all these struggles helped push me along and made me a better chemist. It was also a struggle balancing all the work I had with social media responsibilities, but I think I have a better grasp now!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a cosmetic chemist who creates custom formulas for brands/clients. I also educate people online about the science of cosmetic chemistry in hopes to help people be a little less scared of what goes into their products, but more importantly, be conscious consumers!
I am most proud of the community I’ve built online. Everyone is so supportive of each other, and I continue to learn every day!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Yes — my mentors have truly helped shape me! My last employer taught me so much of what I know and taught me how to be a team player at any job. My other mentor helped me gain the confidence to show up on social media despite all my self-doubt!
But more importantly, my friends have really shown me the most love because they continue to cheer me on every day!
