Meet Jamie Woolner of Pizza of Venice in Altadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Woolner.

Pizza of Venice or POV, as the locals call it is not your average strip mall pizza. With house cured and smoked meat toppings, homemade sauces, and farmer’s market-sourced produce, POV is pizza with a point of view.

Started by Jamie Woolner and Sean St. John, POV channels their adolescent memories of Venice beach, unpretentious artistry and inclusivity.

All pizzas a personal sized and oddly shaped making each pizza special, like a snowflake. Pizza options are preconceived and range dramatically in style; The East LA with homemade chorizo and avocado tomatillo salsa is a nod to LA’s amazing Mexican food scene, and respects paid to the Italian origins of pizza with The Don, housemate Italian sausage and fresh basil.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always struggles, but our struggles have been learning moments as we started this business as kids in our mid-twenties. Smooth sailing makes a great sailor NOT!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Moments of leadership have always helped to make me feel alive and happy. On an 11th-grade school camping trip, I organized dinner for 60. Using the brigade system, I separated my classmates and guides into groups, salad station, pasta station, garlic bread, and servers. I had no restaurant experience but took the lead naturally.
