Meet James Mills of Salsa Island Foods

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Mills.

James, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It started over ten years ago –when we lived in San Jose–before moving to Southern California. We used to make our own salad dressings because we noticed there were ingredients in dressings that were unpronounceable and were not healthy–and really did not even taste good. One night we had a happy accident when some guests joined us for dinner. The product we came up with –we named “Salsa Island”.

Everyone loved it and part of the ingredients included were based upon a salsa blend.

We trademarked it, found a business partner (JOE), and a bottler right here in Orange County only 11 blocks from our home. After developing the product, we had a meeting with Whole Foods. They like the single product –but told us we needed to develop more products and roll out a brand.

We are now completed with developing four healthy salad dressings and salsas with another one soon on the way. All healthy. All low in calories, sodium, gluten-free, and no artificial ingredients.

We have beautiful labels, and flavorful products that you and your family can be assured are also healthy.

We are in a discussion with a large well-known company about distribution–right now.

We are looking forward to helping Americans have healthier foods and more food adventures!

Has it been a smooth road?
Nooooooooooooo! We have had our share of challenges–including walking a very fine line of flavorful products that are safe.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Salsa Island Foods – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Myself and my business partner Joe Sahagun, want to bring healthy and flavor-packed products to America and the World. What sets us apart is that we have no artificial ingredients–(don’t even get me started with the large food products companies and their chemically laced products).

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Are you talking about LA? Love driving to downtown LA—love the look of the big city, knowing how powerful it is in the global marketplace. What do I like the least—THE TRAFFIC!!

It’s cool to drive around like 2:00 in the morning.
