Meet Jameca Lyttle of Dreamentia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jameca Lyttle.

Jameca, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Wow, I think we’d have to go back to 2005 when my father unexpectedly passed away and I was in college, a single mother and found myself running our family trucking company.

It was a pivotal time in my life, to say the least. One of those experiences, when you wake up one day and your life, is literally completely different. At this time, so much was going on but mostly I was forced to really grow up.

So, I’m in my early 20’s; I’m a student, a new mother, and boss. Even with all of these roles front and center, I knew that it was still the very beginning for me and everything that was happening in my life was preparing me for greater things. When I was a little girl I decided, I wanted to be an “Advertising Account Executive”. Not really knowing the ins and outs of the role, just knowing it was a creative position and I liked the ring of the title. Through it all, that goal still was front and center for me, and though there were some major unexpected life occurrences I still had my eye on the prize.

It took me a long while to finish college (I don’t want to age myself) but I did finish, and less than a month later I was in Los Angeles, in search of an advertising agency to call home. Dreamentia was the first and only agency I interviewed with. Fast forward 8 years later, I’m still here.

Has it been a smooth road?
I didn’t have the opportunity (or time) to have an internship in college, and Virginia is quite different from Los Angeles. With my foot in the door, I literally threw myself into my role as the Creative Assistant to our Creative Director. On the job training would be an understatement. Add to that, I’m in a new city, 3000 miles away from my entire family with a young daughter in 2nd grade. It definitely was a balancing act and a testimony to my faith and spirit that it all came together.

I’d like to think my drive, tenacity, and commitment shined pretty bright as I wasn’t an assistant for very long. In less than a year, I was promoted to the account team and had my own accounts. That’s where things really started to move for me. Communicating with clients, calling meetings, coordinating projects and campaigns; I was actually making a difference for our agency, our clients and most importantly beginning to feel that little girl who said she was going to do something at a very young age was well on her way. There’s something about that feeling. You can’t quite put it into words.. but it’s a sense that your life path is actually coming together.

Smooth road, no. But smooth roads are extremely overrated.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Dreamentia has been more of a family than a business/company to me. There is a camaraderie that anyone who’s had the pleasure of meeting Jim can attest to. There’s no way I could have grown as an executive, colleague, mother and friend in Los Angeles in the ways that I have without Dreamentia.

When it comes to the tangible work we do, we build brands and we have a lot of fun doing so. I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside small and medium companies here in LA and throughout the US. I sit at tables with business owners, CEO’s, CFO’s and Brand Managers, I listen to their business challenges, and we provide solutions to them.

In doing this, I have built invaluable friendships, where their triumphs have become mine. Our small agency is an extension of our client’s businesses – in many instances the Creative Department, and who wouldn’t want to work in the Creative Department?

There are so many things I’m proud of when it comes to Dreamentia. We stay true to our values as an agency. We are small, but we are mighty. And while we all have our roles within the group, there is no hierarchy. We all work differently, but it’s those differences where the left and right brain merge and beautiful things come to life. Jim was really on to something when he said there is a “method to our madness.” The end result is always something we can say we’re proud of. I don’t know if that is something that most people can say about the work they do.

We are continuously growing as an agency – working within new industries, staying on top of the ever-evolving trends, expanding our services. I’ve been here for over 8 years and there have never been any 2 days alike. Again, I don’t know if this is something that many other companies can attest to, but it’s who we are and it’s why I think we keep coming back and putting in the hours.

Lastly, not only does my work environment provide a great sense of inspiration, but we work with businesses that are really doing amazing things. One of the things I believe our agency prides itself on is working with clients that we want to work with – that appeal to our inner spirit in a sense. Our clients are saving lives, healing our community, providing services that feed the mind, body and spirit – to be apart of that in any way, is so rewarding, in many ways more so on a personal level than professional manner (Backtrack to that life path note I mentioned earlier. 🙂

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! Los Angeles is a mecca for creatives. While I’m probably the least creative member on the team (Jim would probably say differently), I relish in working amongst so many artistic and creative (right-brained) colleagues.

The energy of our city can be contagious. Our office building here in the historic core of DTLA is a hub for creative businesses – artists, jewelers, design and production companies, etc. There’s an exhilarating feeling when we walk in every day that we are amongst our kind. We create.

I chose Los Angeles for this very reason, and it never disappoints.
