Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake and Tasha Austin.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Glass Woods Media while I was in college, as a side-gig. It was a way to engage my creative passions, while also keeping myself financially afloat as I pursued higher education. While we were dating, I started bringing her along as an assistant & second-shooter. It was while we were engaged that we made the decision for me to take Glass Woods Media full-time. The first year was a whirlwind. We were building a marriage and a business simultaneously. The process brought us closer together as a couple, and stretched us business owners, artists and people. We have gotten to meet some truly amazing couples, and capture some of the most special moments in their lives. Word of mouth is so important in this industry, so having fantastic clients who spread the word about us has really helped us grow to where we are today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m sure any small business owner can attest to the fact that the learning curve in the first year is pretty unbelievable. Neither of us had studied business, or had any prior entrepreneurial experience, so I, Jake, worked exceptionally hard to learn all about the legal, financial, and marketing elements. We found that it takes a lot more than a strong portfolio to run a successful media business. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get this far.
Please tell us about Glass Woods Media.
We specialize in fine art photography and videography, and we are best known for our wedding and engagement shoots. I’m most proud of our dedication, ability, and passion to personally know each of our couples. We spend a great amount of time where others may not, getting to know the bride and the groom personally from our very first meeting, until long after the wedding day. Our passion is telling stories, and getting to know our clients on a personal level helps us immensely in telling their story, whether it be through photography or videography. The qualities that have been most important to our success are good people skills and attention to detail. We work in a people-centered field so being able to communicate well, and make others feel comfortable is the most important thing we do. Attention to detail is important in every area of our work, from the actual photography and videography, through to preparation for and execution of a wedding day. We work closely with our couples to craft their wedding timelines in a way that maximizes time, minimizes stress and ensures that each special detail gets captured.
