Today we’d like to introduce you to Jadon Medina.
Jadon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved down to Los Angeles in 2014 to complete my education at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM). Upon graduating in 2016, I had worked my way through college and had the experience of multiple jobs and internships within the PR and entertainment industries. I quickly landed a position at one of the top fashion agencies on the West Coast.
After a couple of years working my way up the agency ladder, I became frustrated with my career path. I saw a huge opportunity in the rapidly growing influencer marketing landscape and decided to jump on it. I quit my salaried job and started POSSE Agency with my childhood best friend and roommate.
We started the company in January of this year and have now grown to include six clients on our roster. We represent our clients in all of their influencer marketing needs including product gifting, collaborations, and event activations.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! I really struggled during my time working at the agency. Long work hours, no perks, and minimal pay have become a norm within the PR industry. It was a hard break to stray from the career path I had built for myself, however, I knew I had the skills and determination needed to start my own company.
After starting POSSE, there were many challenges I had to overcome. I worked part-time catering and event jobs to supplement income while I got the company off the ground. I wouldn’t have been able to face many of the obstacles I faced without the massive support of my family and friends.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about POSSE Agency – what should we know?
POSSE Agency specializes in connecting brands and businesses with influencers through product gifting, collaborations, and event activations. I saw there was a huge opportunity in working with smaller brands who maybe didn’t have the budget for a full-scale public relations campaign where they are under a long-term contract. This led to the idea of offering something shorter term at an affordable cost so these brands could not only expand their marketing efforts but also grow their sales and social media followings through our campaigns.
I feel immensely proud to see where the company is today in just 6 months. We have amazing clients and are working with some of the biggest and most well-known brands out there.
