Meet Jacqueline Elyse Rosenthal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Elyse Rosenthal.

Jacqueline Elyse Rosenthal

Hi Jacqueline, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been a writer and director; I just didn’t know how to take the reigns in my own life.

As a child actress in Los Angeles, I often stood in the wings of the theatre before curtain – and would come up with alternate realities and circumstances in the play I was about to perform.

Instead of Evita, set in Argentina, we were alien escape artists set for a different world, dancing through the galaxy. I kept these thoughts to myself – they seemed crazy.

I didn’t know at the time there was an entire job for creating imaginary worlds – called writing and directing.

Even now as I step on set to direct, I look back at my journey and look toward the future.

I always have young aspiring female directors shadow me – and I can see a look of delight on their faces that matched my career aspirations as a kid.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think finding a sense of community and support from other directors has been a challenging road. Which is why I started a masterclass for Film Directors. I want to teach the tools and tricks that have helped me find success in the past and share that.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a freelance Writer/Director in Los Angeles. I try to chose projects that speak to me and give back in some way.

I also have my own Production Company, and we have a slate of 4 projects currently in Development.

__________

This past year, I started an educational program, INSIDER’S GUIDE TO FILM, where I help filmmakers from all backgrounds have access to the training I’ve received at a fraction of the cost, with the goal of nurturing their careers and aspiring them to be the best artists they can be.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Massive thank you to my team of reps who keep me grounded:

Managers: Katie Newman and Jack Peterson (3 Arts Entertainment)

Agent: Paul Weitzman (Culture Creative Entertainment)

Lawyer: Ethan Cohan (Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein Lezcano Bobb & Dang)

I would also like to thank all the people who made this career possible, starting with my parents and grandparents, who instilled a message of resilience in me and my mentors at USC (Rebekah McKendry, Jennifer Warren, Sandrine Cassidy, O’Shea Myles, Stephen H. Flick, Bruce Green, Nancy Forner, Bruce Bloch, John Watson, Gail Katz, Brenda Goodman and Dean Daley).

Additionally all the people who took a chance on me, like ETC’s Erik Weaver, SONY (Yoshikazu Takashima, Haji Kamata, Daniel De La Rosa), my producers: Tingting Lyu, Shannon Morrall, Robin Wang, Marian Cook, Josh Powell, Aslan Dalgic, Ann Nguyen, Ari Johnson, and Care Dorghalli as well as my recent Europa team (from my VAD, Sound, VP, DP, PD, Costumes, and so many more people who made that film possible).

Very excited and honored to share that film with the world next year.
