Meet Jacob Doney of Envision Tattoo in Murrieta and Grand Terrace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Doney.

Jacob, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been tattooing for 14 years now here in Southern California. I began tattooing at age 17 in Rialto, California and dropped out of high school to do tattooing full time. I’ve always been into art and knew I wanted to make art as a career.

I was always into skateboarding, punk rock, and heavy metal and never had a problem being different. I played in a band for six years during the early stages of my career and now currently own two tattoo shops in SoCal. I’ve always strived to give every client the best experience possible as well as a great tattoo. I’ve never been afraid to work very hard and accomplish goals but trying to stay humble and grateful in the process. I wouldn’t be where I am today without tattooing or my clients and I’m just happy to be able to go to a job every day that I absolutely love!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing worth doing comes easy I have realized over the years. If you want something badly you will be tested and if you aren’t passionate about it you will quit when it gets tough. Art has always been a part of me and consumes my mind constantly. Although I faced many obstacles, I always pushed through knowing that whatever I was pursuing would pay off through hard work and dedication. I always noticed that anyone who was successful went through tough times and you have two choices, quit when it gets hard or keep moving forward in hopes that the reward will be greater than the struggle. When tattooing it’s very difficult at first, but I would try and fail over and over again until it finally clicked. With that said, I’m still learning everyday and look for ways I can improve all the time.

Envision Tattoo – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Envision Tattoo is a close band of friends and artists who all share the same vision of creating art and offering a good experience. There is a lot of ego in this industry but for me I realize I have nothing without the clients. I take pride in giving my clients a good experience and a tattoo has special meaning to them. I love that all my coworkers truly love tattooing and care about each and every piece they do. It’s easy to get caught up in money or recognition but at the end of the day our focus is giving the client the best tattoo possible! I enjoy doing bold, bright, traditional tattooing that will look good for years to come!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success not by numbers or status or possessions. Your character and how you are with others is what I define as success. At the end of the day I am a regular person doing a job like every other person in the world. I think it’s great to have goals and accomplish them, but not losing sight of who you are or burning bridges to get there. I think it’s good to encourage others as well. At the end of the day we are all striving to better our lives and I think there is a lot to learn in the process of chasing success and it should change you for the better as your working towards your goals.
