Meet Jackson Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackson Davis.

Jackson, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to LA to act about 15 years ago. And I still am an actor. But along the way, I picked up a camera and started shooting street photography. I realized I love faces and I love actors… So naturally, I must love Headshots… And I DO! So I’ve been shooting actor headshots for about seven years or so. It was on and off for a while but the last three years, I’ve really dedicated myself to it.

I feel like because I’m also an actor, I understand the mindset of the actors coming in for shots. I know how it feels to be on the other side of the camera. And I know just how important these shots are them. But also… I know how important it is to keep it fun and creative. I think the best shots come from that kind of creative space.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ha! No… I don’t know if there is such a thing as a smooth road anywhere. And for good reason. Cuz those bumps always teach you something important. I’ve made all kinds of mistakes along the way. I think the biggest was not always trusting myself. There have been times I let insecurities get the best of me. That particular kind of bump can bring down anyone creative fast, so you always have to be ready to battle it.

I’ve been very lucky to have a couple of mentors who are some of the best headshot photographers in town. I can’t tell you how important it is to have someone to guide you through some of those bumps and struggles.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Jackson Davis Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a Headshot photographer! I shoot mostly actors headshots and occasionally some business headshots. I mostly cater to actors though. My hope is that I’m known for giving people amazing headshots that really captured their essence! Shots that feel real and authentic. But also, I want people to leave saying that was the easiest and most fun headshot session they’ve ever had.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
No major changes! Although… I think the nature of any creative job is constant change and growth. I work hard to continue to improve my skills and keep up with what I think will help actors get into more rooms. I would someday like to branch out into doing creative portraits, but that would only be in addition to what I’m doing now.
