Meet Jackie Nagel of Synnovatia in San Pedro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Nagel.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 40 was the catalyst for me to launching Synnovatia. Prior to that, I had a very successful – but stressful – career in sales training and business development. Coaching was a relatively new and unheard-of industry at the time. In fact, there were only 5000 coaches internationally at the time I began my training.

After completing two coach training programs (Coach University and Corporate Coach University), I launched my coaching business.

My Dad was a small business owner and was often frustrated at not being able to find the resources he needed to grow his business. His experience led me to work with small business owners with fewer than 10 employees to fill that need.

I quickly recognized that small business owners needed more than coaching – they needed a strategist, mentor, and adviser. This caused me to return to school for my MDE (Management Development of Entrepreneurship) from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA which allowed me greater capacity to act within that role.

Additionally, so many of the small business owners I worked with were/are masters of their craft with little to no business background. Recognizing the need for the type of strategic thinking/planning skills, I launched a Small Business Growth Program to help small business owners develop the skills and framework they would need to succeed over time. With a focus on creating a solid foundation upon which to grow their business, many of our clients are able to grow more quickly through clarity and focused effort.

Finally, greater complexity for small business owners inspires me to continue to seek out and find more effective solutions for entrepreneurs to grow their business with less stress.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a relatively smooth road with a few struggles along the way…. most of those were of my own making. 😀

The struggles that I experienced were generally caused by my own lack of belief in myself, my ideas, or my ability. Like most small business owners, I think I struggled more than I needed to – especially in the early days of the business.

This lack of belief caused me to take on clients that weren’t a good fit or take on work that didn’t make my heart sing because I was afraid that if I didn’t, I would be destitute.

There was always something positive that came from the struggles. Whether it was refining my skill, gaining greater clarity, sharpening my mental resources — so I would advise any small business owner who is struggling to continue to journey through the struggle because you will eventually get to a better place.

Please tell us about Synnovatia.
Synnovatia’s primary focus is in helping small business owners develop the strategic framework and skills they need to achieve long-term success.

We help entrepreneurs think through and develop the core /foundational business components that ensure long-term success. These include:

  • Vision
  • Mission
  • Business concept
  • Core Values
  • Buyer Persona
  • Value Proposition – Competitive Advantage
  • Product/service program(s) (including Features, Benefits, Pricing)
  • Core Brand Description/Core Brand Story
  • Business Strategy

Additionally, we teach our clients a framework to accomplish their goals in a way that is more manageable, that enhances business performance and growth, and dramatically reduces overwhelm.

We’re most known for our ability to quickly and accurately assess our client’s needs and for providing customized, common sense solutions.

What sets us apart from others in our industry is our comprehensive toolkit of skills and resources.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’m not sure I would do anything differently. I feel that it was all part of my journey that brought me where I am today – that gave me the understanding that I have for business. Had I taken any other path, I might not have the skills and ability that I have today to work with small business owners and help them succeed.
