Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jack Shohet.
After working for two years with world-renowned ear surgeon, Dr. William House, Dr. Shohet founded Shohet Ear Associates in 2001 when Dr. House retired. Continuing Dr. House’s tradition of advanced treatment of ear-related disorders, Dr. Shohet pioneered techniques for implantable hearing devices and minimally-invasive ear surgery. His practice of positioning physicians and audiologists in the same office setting facilitated the most comprehensive ear care. The practice added another neurotologic surgeon, Joni Doherty, MD in 2010 and along with the original office in Newport Beach, opened a second location the same year in Los Alamitos. Three years later the Los Alamitos office moved to the Seal Beach location with a state-of-the art surgical facility for surgery of the ear. Shohet Ear Associates currently have office locations in Orange County and provide services out of multiple hospitals and facilities in Orange County and Long Beach.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Our greatest challenge has been and continues to be finding talented professionals and individuals to provide necessary services to our patients.

Shohet Ear Associates is a medical, surgical and audiologic practice that serves all medical needs for children and adults with ear-related problems. We treat hearing loss, chronic ear infections, congenital malformations, ringing in the ears, vertigo, facial nerve disorders and malignant and benign tumors of the skull base. We are best known for bringing new technologies to hearing– we were the first to implant middle hearing devices, and fit the lyric and ear lens hearing aids in Orange County. We are one of only a handful of hearing clinics in the world that implant the world’s only totally implantable hearing device and Dr. Shohet has implanted more than any other surgeon implanting these devices. In fact, people come from all over the world to be implanted in our surgery center and for all the issues that come up with their devices. Dr. Shohet has developed a reputation among the surfing community for his minimally-invasive approach to removing surfer’s ear (exostoses) and has operated on professional and amateur surfers from around the world.
We are most proud of the great care that we provide our patients and our team approach of physicians and audiologists working together to provide the most comprehensive care of the ear.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are very much looking forward to developing and providing new medical and surgical advances such as inner ear medications and advanced hearing technologies to our patients in the future. We participate in clinical trials aimed at bringing new therapies to use in the office and the operating room.
